Roof rack install issue

While installing an after market roof rack, the bolt holes that anchor one of the four corners have lost the bracket underneath the holes that holds the sleeves that allow a bolt to tighten through the hole.

There is a part number for this roof rack bracket but I know the piece has just fallen down into a "pocket" under that area. I cannot access it from above so my only option is to try and access it from below, through the headliner. No one at 2 dealerships had ever heard of accessing this area.

Has anyone accessed the area under the base of the roof rack? I need to see if I can reattach the bracket from underneath and determine what is involved in accessing this area. I'm definitely not great at dismantling headliners and trim pieces so just looking for any previous experience. If I can access the fallen bracket and hold it back under the bolt holes I might be able to attach the bolts from above and secure my roof rack.

This has to be a super random question so I'm sure my odds are long.

Well, you're in luck,

I did the same thing when installing my rack. I even munged the bracket spinning it with the last bolt. The good news is its recoverable! You will need to take apart some trim and headliner. The bracket I recovered was the rear passenger side. I did enough trim to access the front passenger side as well.

When you get the headliner slightly detached, you should be to reach in and grab the bracket and also the metal clip that holds the bracket to a metal piece connected to the frame. Just re-attach the bracket with the clip so you can get the bolts back in.

I left the trim and headliner off for a few days to verify that my seals were watertight.
