Roof Rack Question

Knowing how many hours I have in this, I'm pretty sure you would end up in the 800-1000.00 range at a fab shop. Its not hard, but very time consuming.

I'd be better off to buy a baja rack then at that price.

Where is the best place to buy a baja rack? Trying to compare the cost of the baja and wmw. I'm sure the baja is made out of lighter metal which helps keep the weight down up there.

WM isn't accepting order over the summer so I'm not going to bother. Looking at the baja rack myself.

Mine isn't an elaborate custom either. Really basic flat rack. I will have about 200 in metal once I pull it off and do some more work on it. I bought a sheet of expanded metal and I am making a shallow wet clothes storage with a lid on it. The tie down points are landscaping spikes that cost me 5 bucks since there were unfinished.

Its never the metal.....always the time. I spent more time designing it honestly

I did what you are asking with a Rola rack prior to just ending up and building my own.

Agreed Whitsons is amazing and what im going to get when i can And it looks like the one that the guy above built himself (nicely done btw) plus they have a few different options with theirs on how it gets built.

Thanks! Whitson makes a beautiful rack and sturdy too. Well worth the cash. Tig welded and smooth. Mine is kinda fugly lol and my welds are fugly flux welds. I am getting better though with time.

better than me im sure.. i really havent even attempted to fab anything up yet... however i have an extra 4runner im hoping to cage, v8 swap etc with.. but that will be a long ass project.

Its all about measuring, placement, and reducing heat warp. If you can manage those drawing a bead is easy.
