Roof rack questions

I'm looking for suggestions/options for a very low sitting roof rack. The top of my stock rack sits at 6'8" however my garge door clears that by close to two inches. I'm wanting this mainly for camping and hunting gear but would also plan to put an LED light bar on there as well.

I have not measured anything yet interms of exact clearances once I get the stock rack off but am very curious if any racks are made that only sit 4 or 5 inches off the T4R.

are you looking for a roof rack replacement or a low profile basket?

If it's a low profile basket, a rola rack mounted between the rails is your best bet.

If you're looking for a direct replacement, you can go with a flat top rack like the African outback rack or reach out to bajarack to see if they are developing one like the 5th gen/FJ flat racks.

When I designed mine, IIRC i was only 4-5" higher than the highest point of the roof. If you tell Perkins performance your requirements, he can make a custom one for you.

I just built a low profile rack, i like how it doesnt sit too high off the roof

I just ordered a Baja Flat rack for my 5th gen today. I think this style rack fits your requirements exactly. My garage is at 79", so height is at a premium.

Call them and ask if they can build you a 4th gen flat rack.

They already make a 4th gen rack, so they have the mounting figured out. Baja Rack

I would think it should be as simple as not adding the side rails.

I believe they already make this just don't advertise it. IIRC MysticZ has that rack on a 4th gen 4runner.

I have a Gobi Stealth Rack, I believe it only sits around 5" higher than the highest point on the roof but I can't remember. I pulled it off last weekend because I've spent the last week on the highway (and more in the future) or I'd go measure now for you.

I almost posted something like this earlier today, I was looking into the loadwarrior.. or doing something for a direct replacement like you said to keep the clearance down. I agree though GREAT posts on this one!

4th Gen Utility Flat Rack

I almost pulled the trigger on the EXP version for the 4th Gen, but I decided I need the flat utility rack. John at Bajarack said it was possible if he finds a 4th Gen 4runner near their shop who would be willing to let them measure and test a prototype (I think they need to know how far down the fairing can sit below the rack without interfering with the roof/sunroof). He said it could take a few months since they are so busy, but I am willing to wait for what I want. Would anyone else be interested? (...in a 4th Gen 4runner Utility Flat Rack)
