Curious if your Prinsu rack is the full length model? Would like that one but not sure about drilling holes to fit it. Should be easy enough I guess.

I'm assuming you have a 4th gen since you're here - (nothing in your profile or sig...)

I've been looking at the Prinsu as well and if you reference the install guide http://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/e5eb7b_386228d4a6f4404f925303d69512b026.pdf there's no mention of drilling holes, and it looks full length. I think the drilling only applies to the 5th gens.

I’ve been thinking of getting this rack, basically a replacement for the factory cross bars:

Something to be aware of, putting the spare on the roof can do some unfavorable things to your CG height.

Does mounting a 100lb tire/wheel on the roof of a 4,200lb vehicle really make it tip over? What about everyone putting roof top tents, highlift jacks, 20 gallons of gas, etc?

Do my 400lbs of skid plates and rock sliders offset the 100lbs on the roof?

I've had my eye on the eezi-awn k9 rack for a while. Just saving up enough to be able to justify that purchase. They have a variety of lengths available up to 2.2m long

The Rocky Road rack also utilized the factory side rails, not that there’s anything wrong with that. All of the other racks mentioned are complete replacements.

Go Rhino

I put a Go Rhino roof rack on my 2007 4 Runner, it looks Awesome and was easy to install. They dont have one specifically for the 4 Runner, I just got the 60" SRM 100 rack for the Tacoma.

I never said it would make it tip over, no need to be dramatic. But if you're crawling up an inclined hill, a tire slides off a rock, and the truck starts rolling to one side rapidly, a more top heavy vehicle will be more likely to roll over than one without stuff on the roof, no matter what it is. It's just physics. It's just something to be aware of, is all. Here's an example of a truck with a lot on the roof that flipped at speed:

Custom Roof Rack

I really like the look of the Prinsu roof rack, but I'm debating on fabricating my own using 80/20 rails. Prinsu seem to custom make their side rails but the cross bars are just 80/20 T-slotted rails.

A company that manufactures these rails also make aluminum quarter round (https://8020.net/shop/1012-black-fb.html) T-Slot rails that I'm thinking about using for the side rails and just using the factory mounts that are already on the car replacing the plastic roof rack. Then I could just buy as many cross bars I want and save half my money to put towards a RTT.

Just hoping that the factory mounts are strong enough and I can somehow easily attach the quarter round to it.

Just wanted to revive this thread to see if you guys knew of any new roof racks that have come out that bolt directly on to the factory mounts. Been two years, there's gotta have been some development, right?

ARB touring rack, didn't want to wait 3 to 4 months for a rack. I modified a Yakima warrior basket spare tire mount to fit as well, just had to drill 4 small holes and get some larger clamps for the cross bars.

Ah okay. So that basket can still clamp on the existing cross bars?

Negative, there is a side rail that replaces the factory rack and the basket mounts to that. I believe they call it a fitting kit, part number 3722010. Then the touring rack, part number 3813200. The system sits about 2 inches above the roof and still lets you slide open the sun roof.
