roof rack sealant / washers ??

Taking my factory roof rack off to refinish. Looks like the factory screws had some sort of sealant on the threads and some rubber washers between the rack and the body.

What did people use to re-seal the threads? Is it necessary to put new washers on?

I used black silicone in the hole then put bolt back in. no leaks after 6 months

I am adding a roof rack and sadly have to drill holes.

I was thinking about some liquid nails adhesive to go along with the RIVNUTS I am putting in to hold the rack on.

hope it works. lol

Reaally? Mine didn't come with a roofrack but all I had to do was remove the two black strips (where roof rack would normally go) and the roof rack I found in a junk yard fit into the holes the strips were screwed too

That's exactly what I did also....there should be holes up there already

Ditto (even the junkyard rack) and put black RTV in the holes and screwed in the bolts (allen screws if I remember right).
