Roof Rack ??

Hi, everybody!
I am new here and have been teetering on whether or not to get a 4Runner or something else since. I've owned an Explorer for almost 10 yrs and I'm ready for something new.

I went to a dealership and test-drove one today and LOVED it. I'm planning on getting a Sport Edition.

My question is. I'm needing roof racks (specifically Thule) that can fit the 4Runner. I'm planning on tying up windsurf gear up there.

Anybody have any experiences?

Why specifically thule? Just curious.


I have no experience with Thule first hand, other than what I have sold to customers, but I can say that I have had nothing but great experience with Yakima. Do a search and you will find that this topic has been asked and answered many times.

Man, sorry about that. I didn't think about doing a search. I've used THule on my Explorer and forgot about the Yakimas.

I have a Yakima Mega Warrior basket. It looks pretty good and is dual purpose:

1. You can just throw stuff into the basket and secure it with a cargo net or bungies

2. You can use the built in cross bars to attach all the available Yakima and Thule carrier products

I just got a Surco rack, it will arrive tomorrow. It looks nice from what I've seen, and has accesories to mount a spare tire, hi-lift jack, shovel, axe, bikes... you name it.

If you already have Thule crossbars (take your rack with you off the Exploder) just get new "feet" that will attach it to the 4Runner. Probably the cheapest and most simple way.
