I have a 91 4runner and i was wandering if it is possible to pull a stock roof rack off a later model 4runner?
I have one in my garage that I plan on installing on mine. I know there will be some drilling involved and probably nutserts & silicone. I have too many other projects started to mess around with it and it's low on my "to-do" list.

Roof racks are very easy to remove. You may have to move the cross bars around to uncover the screws and that is it. My 95 4Runner that I'm parting out had some screws that were rusted and had to be drilled out. The 95 rack looked very close to the rack on my 2000 4Runner. I think the rack that is in my garage is from a 92 or 93 4Runner. I bought it from a member on YotaTech months before I found my parts 4Runner.

A friend of mine and I were able to remove a stock 2nd gen luggage rack in about 15 minutes using a drill driver (in the dark at the house of a guy who was parting one out).
BE SURE TO SAVE ALL THE RAILING FITTINGS (the screws - not so much - they will have to be based on the "nutserts" you'll use for the installation). I chose to go with stainless steel hex-key heads and steel nutserts. Please note that steel nutserts are a ***** to install with a hand riveter. We broke two in the process of sinking 12 or 14 nutserts (I forget how many it is).
The nice thing about this is that you can position the roof rack anywhere (within reason) on the roof. We went further back than stock to allow for a roof top CB antenna. We can also reach more of the rack from the tailgate.
Good luck with the project.
