Roof Racks

For those that have the Toyota stock rook racks, anybody have problems with the paint prematurely peeling away? If so, what have you done? Is this covered by warranty/extended warranty?

I am having the same problem with my stock roofrack. My 4Runner is a 2000 with the black paint and I too would like to know what, if anything, can i do to make it look like new again. Maybe spray paint it again or something?

Mine doesn't peel off on its own, but it does come off easily if bumped when putting things up on the roof (kayak, etc). I haven't looked at trying to fix it. If it's coming off on its own and your still under warranty, I would go to the dealership.

Hi, its me again... the one with the 2000 4Runner. I got my 4Runner used a few months ago and well I was looking over the carfax report that I got from the place I got it from and well it seems that I have a little over two months warranty left on Corrosion. My question is... Does anyone know if the paint peeling from the roof rack would be consided "CORROSION" or does that only mean corrosion as in "RUST" ? If anyone has any input I would greatly appreciate it.

mine has peeled in several spots- including both top pieces and even the sides. the black texture just flakes off..?
I have a 2001. I wonder if anyone has seen info about a recall for this?

is there a plastic spray paint that would work? Maybe respaying them would be an option, since there is nothing functionally wrong with the rack.

My 98 4runner is having the same problem. I just noticed it about a month ago, the paint is flaking off on the underside of the roof rack. Don't know what to do about it yet, but I thought I would just let everyone know that I am having the same problem.
