I added extended roof rails to my 2000 recently by going to the wrecking yards. There are all sorts of vehicles including Ford Explorers around the same year that have rails that are equivalent. Would have put 4-runner rails on except I could not find any. Found blind flange nuts (Plusnuts) on the web that worked excellent for mounting to roof top. Whole project cost me less than $20.
