Hey Brian I don't own one myself so I can not recommend one, But I bought a snorkle from gooverland.com and they have rtt and racks. As far as racks they sell bajarack which is price right around 300.00 dollars. The one that you are going to need is the expedition rack. You can also check them out expedition portal, a lot of the guys over there have them. Please post pictures if you get one, I am also tempted in getting one but need other stuff first.

i'm with john when i looked at them far too much money for what it is, even though i've seen a few on land cruisers and they are cool, but i'm not dumping 800-1K or more into a tent that's strapped to the roof, just buy a roof rack a normal tent and some cots and still have only spent $500 or so, heck you can buy one of the best tents in the world for $800-1K, the advantages of teh platform just can;t justify it to me personally.
the advantages are quick and easy pack up (about 5 minutes shorter than packing up a normal tent)
storage (folds in on it's self and is contained in the roof rack and deploys fairly quickly)
and a flat solid platform to sleep on opposed to un-level /rocky ground
but i'll just restate that for that price you can buy
cots to keep you off the rocky ground
a tent you can use anywhere in the world in any condition
storage containers for tents and all other camping gear, or even buy the cargo box for the rear with the sleeping platform on it as well.

ans still have money left over. to me setting up and breaking down a tent is part of the fun of camping just like getting the fire going, i enjoy those chores, so spending an extra 300-500 to save 10-15 minutes of set up isn't worth to me personally , i feel that camping is time to slow down and take a breath, anyways i got my vw bus for when i need more then a tent can provide. lol

They are for expeditions and whilst i agree it is a lot of money, when you are on a 3 month safari in africa, the bus can't venture that far, and it would get old real quick setting all that stuff up and putting it away for 90 days straight, So it would seem better than having to store all those other tent components and such, and it is also better than lugging a caravan. So roof tents serve a very good purpose, i just dont see them practical in this devoloped nation.

yeah i agree i doubt he's going on an African safari or even a 90 road trip, for weekend warriors it's waaayy overkill,
and a vw bus can handle far more then you think, they are aircooled motors and are often the choice for long distance desert racing and third world countries for a reason.
these guys drove from holland to china going through some of the most remote places on earth with their vw bus, think iran,mongolia, ect ect ect

The Opel Kadet and Volkvagen Beeeetle were the 2 that made it unmodified. Praciticality leads us to a long range diesel motor that gets good MPG with a large fuel tank. 4x4 may not be necessary but it would be a lot easier to pass through the desert and jungle with.
And a land rover defender is far more reliable than what most of you guys think but no one is open minded (including me).
My vote is to reinvest the money elsewhere into the truck.

A couple guys (4 right now, soon to be 5) have RTT's and swear by them. A couple did a quick review of their own and gave their reason for the one they picked when first looking at them. So far I've only done a single 2 day trip which required caming out on the trail and let me tell you how jealous I was of those things. I know one of them was tested in -20 (backcountry skiing) and with the proper gear he said it was no problem at all.
Depending on how many nights you would end up using this thing vs. how many nights you'd spend driving to the nearest hotel and spending ~$50 a night this may not actually end up costing you as much as you think over a couple years. Plus, it's like a FORT on the TOP of your TRUCK!!! How is that not cool?
