Rosen Sun Visor Review

Update: so the test mounts failed to cover the gaps completely and will require a complete redesign of the mount if they were to release a 4runner specific or tacoma specific visor in the future. They don't have a ETA as to when this will happen since this company mainly focuses on airplane applications, and not necessarily vehicle applications (unless there were dual applications already designed).

The current mounts offered are "universal" for a reason, it is to fit a multitude of platforms without needing vehicle specific mounts, so the mounts do not fit perfectly to each vehicle but are easily remedied (see DIY)

Vehicle specific mounts are really expensive. Rosen was kind enough to send me the schematics and allowed me to purchase an additional mount at wholesale to play with, and it wasn't cheap.

DIY solution: cut plastic spacers or 3d print some spacers to cover the gaps, and place the mount above it. This is perfectly suitable from a DIY standpoint, and will make any OCD person happy.

Currently, the interior of the vehicle is getting some forged carbon goodies, so I'll update ya'll when I get the chance to take some new pics or if I get off my butt and 3d print some spacers. I'm currently really happy with this setup, so making 3d printed spacers is on my very long list of "to do" projects.

Disclaimer: I am not sponsored by Rosen. I paid full price for the universal visors, and I received a test mount that didn't quite make it past my initial testing, and I paid wholesale for another test mount to play around with.

I got the clip on version for driver side installed this past Sunday. Agreed on the thing is well made.
Slight issue with the clamp not able to wrap around fully due the the thick oem visor. But still very secure. Also now the oem visor sags about 1/4” from roof - I guess because of the added weight. Hardly noticeable.
The permanent install version do look very clean. But I didn’t want to remove the factory visor.

yeah i spent a few days trying to figure out which version to buy. I even changed my order at least once...lol.

It's hard for me to explain, but the overall attention to detail and design of the permanent mounting won me over.

I just like cool stuff.

Following up on my factory visor sag issue. After trying some velcro and tape methods that doesn’t really help. I learned that when not deployed, instead of folding the Rosen toward me, I flip it to face forward. Doing so put the factory visor back to its original closed position. This doesn’t block my driving visibility. Hardly noticeable looking ahead and from outside.

I’ll take a bumpy drive to see if it vibrates much. But I think problem solved.

Installed this AM. Had to run an errand plus bumps on roads and noticed no sag as you described. Did have the OEM visor mirror end clipped in the retainer.

Also no 2 hand deploy as you noted. Perhaps you did not loosen the Allen Head screw a bit that allows easier deploy. I loosened it just enough to easily deploy with one hand but not enough to allow it to deploy by itself on a bump. Also keeping the OEM visor clipped at the mirror end assists in one hand deploy.

I am really happy with it and since the sun was just rising got to use it on several occasions. Great addition in my opinion and well worth the price.

That would be pretty sick though.

Although, for functionality, it isn't really necessary cuz of how much adjustability these visors have.

Rosen did have a 16 ish inch one in the past, but i don't think they offer it anymore. (read it on the land cruiser forums).

I don’t think that is necessary. Look at how my 15” is adjusted to just miss the mirror when deployed.

I suppose you could cut out the 18” in the middle to miss the mirror when deployed but leave some at the top and bottom to cover above and below the mirror.

That's sort of what I was thinking...trimming the pillar side as necessary, but trimming the mirror side so that it can go under the mirror a little.

Like you say though, likely unnecessary, and maybe not so much better as to make it worthwhile.

i always have these upgrades in my mind. I ordered the 15, and was gonna make 18 inch one out of a sold black polycarbonate/plexiglass, but once i got the 15 i realized making a 18 inch version was a waste of time for me, because i have a 5 inch tint strip on top of my windshield, and it worked so well, i didnt even bother.
