Your not supposed to be driving with the rear window down anyway. ALL cars create a vacum behind them while they drive - with the window open - exhaust gases can get in.
All cars have the sulfur smell when the engine is put under load. Drive behind most any car on a steep hill and you'll find it. The 4ruinner is more pronounced; however.

No there is no definite fix. I forgot this in my original reponse but some people rout the exhaust from the side behind the passenger side rear wheel.
I doubt your getting exhaust smell from you front windows as this is impossible.

I had the tsb performed on my old 2006 V6 4Runner and it was better after the work was done, but not perfect.
I get the sulfur smell in my 2008 V8 when I'm climbing up a hill or stomping on the gas or when the truck is under load as eskimochaos mentioned, but not when I'm driving on a flat road without a lot of stress on the engine.
If I drive with the back window open, which I do very often when the weather is comfortable, I ALWAYS have the sunroof open in order to create an airflow in the truck that hopefully forces the exhaust out the rear window.

If you're driving normally, you'll probably never noticed any sulfer smell. However, if you keep your foot to the floor for a bit and then stop at a red light, you should notice a sulfer-like scent. On my particular 4Runner, I only notice it if I'm really hard on the gas and then come to a stop. If I floor it and keep going, the "smell" never catches up with me, but I sure feel sorry for the suckers behind me

will try it some day, yes I'm easy on gas since it goes like stink as is with V8 power

Not technically a vacuum, but is actually just your basic low turbulence low pressure area caused by the vehicle's aerowake. It allows fumes to pool in it and they can be sucked through the rear window at times.
I roll with my rear window cracked occasionally, with some windows down and the sunroof open...but I know that when I load the engine it is going to kick out the sulpher smell and I either close up the rear or try to take it easier on the gas pedal during those times. My "hump" spoiler also mixes things up some back there and forces air straight down the window...but I don't ride with it all the way open, and I don't do it every time I am in the truck...I think I'll live.
As mentioned, I too have gotten a little of the smell in the truck with everything rolled up...so it isn't like the thing is air tight and sulpher free from the get-go.

I've said this before and I'll say it again for the guys who think driving with the rear window down is unhealthy or even life-threating:
The engine of your 4Runner is a modern powerplant and therefore emits very low emissions. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to kill yourself even if you piped exhaust gases directly from the tailpipe into the passenger cabin. If you've ever had your 4Runner on a gas analyzer (tailpipe emission test), you'd see that it emits extremely small quantities of CO once the engine is at operating temperature. When the engine is cold, however, the emissions are quite a bit higher. Fortunately, the engine reaches operating temperature quickly, so really...don't sweat it if you like to drive with the rear window down. You're not going to pass out or anything.

I tend to drive alot with the rear window all the way down and windows open, one of the nicer features of the runner IMHO. I only get the sulfer smell when I get on the gas passing people or merging into traffic. Other than that I never smell it with the windows up. This is my 3rd 4runner and I cant get enough of her, love it everytime I starter up.

personally i like the smell....its a trademark! plus it reminds me of the Fla Keys everglades fart smell!
