Round vs. Squared Fog Lights?

Couldn't find a discussion about this anywhere on this forum:

I'm thinking about getting a grille guard (probably either the WAAG or Manik) and installing some fog lights on the White Streak. I see most guys get round fog lights. Are they better than the square/rectangular ones? I'm considering Hella lights, and either the 500 (round) or 550 (rectangular) seem to be good choices. Do round ones install easier or better? Is it purely a cosmetic choice?

I would like as many opinions on this as possible. And I would really appreciate any example pictures if you're able. I don't see too many pictures of aftermarket rectangle lights installed on 4Runners. Thanks, guys.

If you are mounting them on a grill guard (Bumper or higher - level) you may what to consider running lights instead of fogs. Running lights may give you more visible use. Fogs are better mounted as low as possible and give very limited visibility for regular driving conditions. You want a lens that is sharply focused (sharp cut offs) so you can focus them out of oncoming driver

I think round or square or rectangular lights are all preference. They make fog or driving lights in any of those shapes so it's up to you on what you think looks best on your truck.

They have the PIAA unit which has a fog and driving pattern which you can select at any time. I think it only comes in a rectangular shape though.

I'm no expert, but I always heard that a light with a round reflector put out a better more consistant beam pattern. But being as they will be auxillary lights it probably won't matter.

I have used rectangles and rounds

and have found no differene in performance.

The shape and size will be dictated by the style you prefer nad the mounting space you have.

I just like the rounds for the 4Runner. I had rounds for the Tahoe on top of the bumper. Rectangles for my Ford Mustand as it fits better under the plastic bumper/air dam. Rectangles for the VW Scirocco under the bumper for a more integrated look. Some VW Sciroccos owners like the above bumper mount with rounds for that "rallye"look.

I agree with most in that shape is a personal decision. Personally, I like round on a 4Runner grille guard (see my truck). Koz has a good point- you may want to go with driving lights if you are going to mount them on the stubs on the grille guard. Since they are up high, you will get better use of driving lights up there. If you custom mount them lower, then go with fogs. Find alexjet's truck on this site- he has both, and it looks pretty good.

If you have a grille guard, buy a rounded fog lights. Which is popular. But if you don't have a grill guard, you should get a square ones just so it would look more stock. But this is my opinion. The circle on looks better in a 4th Gen rather than 3rd Gen because the size of the vehicle is bigger. :D
