Hey guys,

my rear defroster and rear wiper doesn't work anymore... i've checked the fuses and they're fine. Does anyone else have any ideas on what I can check? Is there a connection in the engine bay that might have come loose? thanks.

ps.

I've tried the following already from another thread.

1. Make sure your rear wiper is in the proper neutral position.

2. Try putting your window up.

You should definitely try putting your window up and down again. Make sure that the when you hit the switch, the window goes up and down automatically. When this happened to my truck, I had to play with the switch two or three times.

Does the light on the defroster button come on when you push it? Do the side mirrors defrost, and not the rear window? Or does nothing defrost at all?

what DID happen was that the light on the defrost didn't come on.. the wear wiper/fluid didn't work.... but the everything else worked. I thought I blew a fuse... as I had played with the window before and it didn't help.

Good to know that the rear window has to be initialized for these things to work. Thanks for posting!!

Recently my rear window defrost button would not light up, and the rear window defroster stopped working. This circuit also controls the heaters in the side mirrors. Was getting ready to bring it in for warranty work, when I found this thread. Sure enough, after lowering and raising the rear window (just once), the damn thing started working again. Crazy!

Why would this be? jharris2, you said "the rear window has to be initialized for these things to work". What do you mean? That the window has to through a full cycle from time to time?

In the winter here in MN I really don't have any need to lower the window, so it has probably been a few months since doing so. Does the computer keep track of these things?

It almost seems to me that the computer monitors the "activity" of the rear window, and shuts down the defroster circuit if it doesn't like what it sees.

Well, whatever is the cause, thanks Mark86 for your great tip. Saved me a trip to the dealer! And thanks T4R.org for keeping this place running.

Glad I saved you a trip to the dealer! The most common cause for that is disconnecting the battery.

Had to do that with my new '07 before the rear wiper worked, just opened the window a few inches, then closed it and everything was fine. Probably the same reason my wiper quit working on my 04. I didn't know the solution then, and that one went to the dealership to get fixed.

Hi...New T4R owner here, just brought my '06 SR5 home yesterday. After a celebtratory dinner at one of my fav Japanese restaurants last night, I too noticed my RR defroster was not working and the button did not light up. I was really REALLY pissed.

However, one search lead me to this thread and your instructions, and after one down/up cycle - VOILA! It works! I don't believe it!

Thank you so much! I am happy to be a new T4R operator and look forward to a long happy relationship!
