RR sliders installed, interesting thoughts

Ok, so I decided to pick up some RR sliders because I did not really feel like waiting on shrockworks and there were not any other options at the moment. The sliders themselves are very beefy and well built, so I am happy with their construction but I wish they did stick out a bit more.

Issue #1: They arrived fairly damaged. This was all powder coat damage for the most part. Here is an example of how I received them, mind you the packaging was completely intact, so this was shipped out damaged from RR.

After two days of back and forth with RR, which was surprisingly pain free once I sent them pics, they refunded me part of my cost (an estimated cost to have them repowdercoated in Atlanta). They were happy to make this right after my initial "anger". So overall my customer service experience with RR was surprisingly good and surpassed expectations.

Install and after impressions- The passenger side is stupid easy. The driver side was annoying because of the surprisingly stiff fuel lines. They supply spacers as Hamiltonj2w1 noted, but the factory bolts are not long enough to go back in the factory holes. I found using the spacers was not needed. I disco'ed the fuel lines, installed the sliders, and just bolted the lines back up just like they were, spacers for me were not needed, the sliders fit behind them just fine.

Everything else went fine, took about 30 mins, but I did sheer off a bolt head on one of the bolts because the hardware they supply is frankly dogsh*t in the shape of a bolt. I plan on replacing it with grade 8 stuff down the road, so if I were to do this again I would have just picked up grade 8 from the start, so this was mostly my fault for using their hardware knowing it was about as strong as silly putty.

All in all I am happy with the sliders as they are beefy as hell and will do their job protecting the truck. I was not happy with the powdercoat or the hardware. So hopefully when people make their slider decision down the road and search the forum for info, this will be helpful for those in the future.

Sorry to hear you're having QA issues, it's always depressing to have something new arrive looking used.

I'm surprised the bolts are/were that soft. Sliders and rails need to have a VERY strong mounting setup. I wouldn't blame you for not replacing them from the start, I'd blame the company for not supply either G8 or SS bolts.

I got Grade 8 bolts in the bag. But I've read enough bad reviews about RRO that I'm going to stop recommending them to people. From bad customer service, to shipping wrong/damaged products, to cheaper hardware... somethings going on with them and it's ruining their rep.

I had similar issues with my RRs. My powdercoat damage was not as bad, so I just touched up with paint.

The washers included in the hardware did not fit over the supplied bolts. No biggee, replaced and went to work. Passenger side was easiest. Had to bend one bracket to make it fit. (Not fun using hammer on new parts!)

Drivers side was hard because of tight fuel lines. Supplied bolt was not long enough to pass through spacer and grab mounting hole on frame. Had to replace bolt and I still could not get it installed. Drove 4 hours back home to MO, and had my dad and sisters boyfriend hold into place, and we finally got it mounted 15 minutes later.

I hope I never have to take these off. Just my experienced.

I am not sure how fair it is to blame RR for what UPS does to irregularly shaped packages - see my thread: here. We could pay a lot more for packaging and shipping, and maybe that would not happen.

This being said, steel parts that get abused like sliders would get painted with rust-o-leum paint on a brush as needed anyhow. Periodically you'd take them off, sand blast them, and then brush on more of the anti-rust black paint.

Could I get some pics of your driver's side mounting, with the fuel pump and all? I am trying to figure out if the 2011 is different in some way.

ETA: my bolts were metric, grade 8.8. Plenty strong.

Like I said in my original post, the packaging was completely intact. All the damaged areas where under not only tons of layers of plastic but under very tough styrofoam, all of which had not been compromised in any way. So again, as I said in my first post, the 6, yes 6 areas that had paint damage were all done prior to packaging. This you can blame on RR.

The hardware they gave me was not even grade 3, it was grade crap. I will be replacing it all bolt by bolt this week with grade 8.

I will snap a couple pics on the drivers side today. Just so you know, as far as which side the sliders go on (which I believe might be different for SR5s and TEs, since some guys with SR5s say the support closest to the end means rear) The two supports close together go under the rear door. This becomes obvious after you get under the truck to see the KDSS pump and lines on the drivers sider.

I actually called RR to address this issue and tell them they should supply 2 more bolts for the spacers they said I was the only one who had this issue they basically told me to go to the parts store and buy longer bolts then. Real awesome customer service considering I had already done that and really didnt want anything from them other to give them feedback on there product which it had clearly stated in the instruction that they want feedback on the product.

I probably won't recommend them to anybody either Budbuilt has sliders coming demello has sliders so we are pretty lucky to have so many options this early with the new 5th gen

nicest part is that you can't really see them...but know that they're there if you need them.

I'm glad thay did the right thing for you..as far as the hardware mine came with the grade 8 also. One thought I did have though, I was wondering if the nutsert in the frame is a grade 8....it seems that you might be able to tourque that around if it was softer steel...or worse case...strip it.
