RS3200+ Alarm System Help 2003 4Runner

Hey,
I just purchased the Toyota RS3200 Alarm System kit for my 4Runner and installed it. However it is not functioning properly.
Here is the problems:
1) The "red car light with the key" keeps on blinking and does not go solid for the 30 seconds after arming the system (aka lock the doors with the remote) It blinks as if the alarm system was not installed.
2) HOWEVER, after 30 seconds, if I were to force open the door, the car attempts to relock it and the directional and dashboard lights blink. BUT the horn does not sound. and after putting the key back in the igniton, the car light doesn't blink the attempts that the car was "forceably" broken into. (as stated in the manual)
3) The gbs doesn't work, I tried using the testing procedure and it does not function.
Also, this alarm system part number is: 08586-3D871, NOT the 08586-3D870 because the newer part superceeded the "-870" part number. The parts guy said it should work with my 4Runner.

What is wrong? The alarm ECU is broken or something is screwy? Some please help!

Just an update:
I removed the alarm system and called my dealership to order me a replacement. I will redo the install this week Friday sometime... I am hoping the alarm system that I got was defective and nothing else.

Anyone who has any experience with this, please chime in! :)
 
Alright!! Its 5am and I finally got the alarm setup and working!!
I feel like I am talking to myself here throughout this whole topic, but here is the solution:
1) Re-re-re-re-re-reread the directions!
-> The step where I had to splice the wires was very confusing. At first, I was splicing 2 wires from the V5 harness to the 40pin v5 connection cable that connects to the alarm "brain". The directions were not that clear to me and the REALLY required me to splice the wires onto the 40pin harness that is tucked away to the left of the glovebox. It was a pain to get the connector separated from the main vehicle harness.
So, splice the 2 wires onto the 40pin harness that is ON the 4runner, NOT on the v5 harness itself.

Thinking about it, it now makes sense. I was thinking it was dumb of toyota to make the user to splice the wires onto the v5 harness itself, they could just do it at the factor. Actually, it was me that was dumb. :bigok:
 
Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I'm about to order the same 08586-3D871 kit for my '05 SE and I'm wondering if the kit comes with glass breakage sensors or if that has to be purchased separately?

By the way, the going price seems to have dropped to about $175 now.

I just installed one the other day, the GBS (Glass Breakage Sensor) is actually a microphone and it does comes in the RS3200+ (PN 08586-3D871). Also make sure you don't do what the OP and I did where we spliced into the V5 harness the first time, it will save you some headache.
 
Install instructions for rs3200

I received the VIP system (08586-3D871) for my 08, does anyone have install guide? I also got the iPod interface that needs installation, but it seems relatively straightforward.

I am thinking about ordering this same kit for my '08 T4R since I recently installed a new stereo system. I have been thoroughly reading all of the instructions prior to ordering and am confused on page 12 where you do the "checks". It refers to an LED light, but the instructions do not reference installing an LED light, nor do the kit contents listing on page 1 mention an LED light. Am I correct in assuming the LED light they are referring to is the Immobilizer Security light near the HVAC controls and clock, or are my PDF instructions for the 08586-3D871 missing some pages?
 
Pretty easy install! Thanks for the clarification on the splicing on the wire harness, I could see where I would have easily done the same thing. The most difficult part for me was getting the nut tight that holds the ECU securely in place. That was a little upside down bass-ackwardness movement to get not only a 10mm wrench, but my fingers and thumbs in there! Thanks all for your help!
 
08586-3D871 Alarm

Ryan, how are you liking this alarm? I'm considering installing it in my 2008 T4R. Any other suggestions? Where did you find the pdf for the install? I'd like to review it prior to purchasing the system. Thanks.
 
help please

I have a 2001 4runner I disconnected the valet switch to the alarm and now when i try to start it it wont even turn over ive tried hooking the switch back up but it still wont start. any ideas????

I can't complain about this alarm at all. It's integrated into the factory keyless entry so you don't have to have an aftermarket fob. My alarm has never gone off for bogus reasons. (Only time I've heard it go off was when it was getting hailed on (marble sized).
