RS3200 Plus VIP Questions

When I bought the 4Runner, we had the port install version of the RS3200 Plus VIP system, called a "security system upgrade" by Gulf States. The did not provide a manual, although "security system upgrade" appears on the Moroney sticker.

I obtained all available manuals for the RS3200 Plus from the Fujitsu Ten faxback system (information at http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=735). Fujitsu Ten makes the Toyota security systems.

My system does not work like the manuals state. For example:

1. The manual says (page 5) you can arm the system by using the key to lock the door. Mine does not do that.

2. Page 6 of the manual says that unlocking the door or the rear door with the key will disarm the system. Not so on my truck.

3. Programming instructions to have the unlock button unlock all doors at once (instead of requiring you to puch the unlock button twice) do not work.

Since the system does not perform as indicated in the manuals. I'm becoming suspicious that Gulf States either did not install the right system or didn't install one at all.

Can anyone with the RS3200 Plus on a 2003 model confirm that their system performs the way the manual states?

Hmm, are you sure you have the RS3200? I know that my 4Runner Ltd doesn't have it. Rather, it has the theft-deterrent system. The system won't go off if the window is broken into since it doesn't have a microphone-it's actually kinda useless when you think about it. Look at the 4Runner's manual...it'll show you how to test if the system works. If I recall correctly, you unroll a window, lock the doors. After about 30 seconds, try to open the door from the INSIDE. It should go off. Like I said...useless. Anyway, does you driver's side window have a sticker that says "VIP system" or does it says "theft-deterrent system"?

Driver's side has neither sticker. That also makes me suspicious that it's not the RS3200 Plus.

But, the service manager at the dealership looked up the order code on their computers and said it's supposed to be the RS3200 Plus, according to Gulf States. While a lot of folks have had trouble with the service department of their dealership, I've built a good relationship with this guy and a couple of the technicians, so I don't think they would steer me wrong on that point.

System seems to have a microphone somewhere, because tapping hard enough on the glass will trigger a warning of 4 horn blasts (or something like that -- been a while since I tested it).

Correction -- it has the sticker that it has a theft deterrent system.

Doesn't change the fact that the Moroney sticker shows a security system upgrade and Gulf States computers say it's supposed to be the RS3200 Plus.

I guess you do have the RS3200+....I don't think my alarm doesn't go off if I tap on the glass...I'll try that later today. Do the Gulf States have different packages? Maybe someone in the forum has the VIP system..sorry I can't of further assistance :(

It's located behind the glove compartment, so I'd need to tear the dash apart to find out for certain.

What I may do is take these "malfunctions" to the dealer and let them figure it out. But it's 800 miles until the next oil change, so it will be a while -- several long out-of-town trips for work between now and then.

OK, I took it in on Monday and they have been working on it ever since (a couple of minor items + 6,000 mile service). I provided them the manuals I got from the Fujitsu-Ten fax system so they would have a reference to work from.

This afternoon, after they had spent a lot of time with Toyota Tech Support, the service manager told me that the system is not the RS3200 Plus. Oddly enough, Toyota's computers indicate that it is the RS3200 Plus, but in fact it is the Keyless Entry System plus Security System Upgrade. Net -- it's not the same and the programming instructions for the RS3200 Plus will not work.

Additionally, the key fobs have a different part number than the fobs for the RS3200 Plus, even though they look exactly the same. What a mess! :50cal:

He was pretty frustrated, too, that Toyota is not providing much documentation for the system. The silver lining for them is that when the next customer that comes in with questions, they now know what the answers are.
