Rubbermaid Storage Bin (with Double Decker Option)

I finally did it - after taking the advice of someone else on this forum. Excellent idea, even if I cannot claim it as my own.

Even though it cost $15 at Home Depot, I think it was money well spent. The lid won't fit, so I had to stash that somewhere in the house, but the double decker platform ends up working as a lid anyway....and nothing has fallen out of the bin yet.

When the platform is down (and can be locked with those two little knobs), there is only about a one or two inches of gap between the bottom of the platform and the top of the bin. You'd have to really hit some rough bumps for anything to fall out.

I find this bin excellent for rags, tire shine spray, Armor-All protectant, my car duster, a can of tire repair goo and any other miscellaneous junk I need to carry with me on a trip.

Maybe a dumb question but why do you carry such stuff in your truck? Tools I understand, emergency equipment yes, but cleaning gear?

I think you should remove the cleaning gear since the everyday heat cycling will eventually ruin the products and make them less effective.

Cleaning Gear


Basically, it is just odds & ends in there -- tire cleaner, Armor-All, etc., etc.; along with some rags and towels. Nothing volatile.

I don't have a garage and my backyard shed already has tools, household stuff, the lawn mower and two bicycles in it. I use the trunk of my Sentra to keep stuff as well, since I pretty much use that car for commuting. The 4Runner is my "weekend car" and a vehicle that I use if I take a trip anywhere. There's always been plenty of room for my stuff -- even with the 'lower deck' being used for my cleaning nicknacks.

I've never noticed any problem with cleaning supplies going bad because of heat or cold. Perhaps I use up the stuff quickly enough that it won't happen. I don't know.

But I appreciate the input!
