Ruffian's next step through her "done correctly" off road modification process.
So 1st of all, this is directed to those of you whom I've become friends with thanks to this forum. You know who you are. I know I'm not the only one who's been greatly helped thanks to either your expertise or personal experience, but Ruffian and I thank you.:biggrin2::hatsoff::thanks:
Completed the next step in doing the modification process. Now please understand that this is a LONG work in progress. A single gal can only afford to do so much only so often. All 4 Spidertrax spacers were installed this week. I was a little nervous over this mod, but once I had decided that in order to get the last bit of clearance over the Sierra rocks I had to go to 33" tires, the spacers are essential.
Very easy install with help of a strong guy friend. We went for a little drive out to a local State Park, down 2 lane twisty roads and then for a little beach and over rocks off roading. I have to say, the 4Runner grips the road really well now, the vehicle is very stable and tracks as straight as it did before. The purchase on the roadway feels very secure. Not that I really had body roll before, but now there is none what-so-ever.
This is the view with the out going stock sized 31" Nittos.
New aftermarket tails.
I have an appointment Tuesday to get the 33" BFGs installed. Including the spare. If the shop can't get the spare to fit in where it's supposed to, my buddy and I are going to look at it to see what we can do to make it fit. Or I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just toss it in the back when I go off roading. He and I will all do the necessary plastic trimming. As even with the 31's now, I'm getting rubbing.
Now for the pic of the mod I wasn't expecting. Since it was hot, I drove Ruffian into the breezeway of the barn. The clue that trouble was brewing was when I caught the chestnut gelding leaning out of his feeder window, licking Ruffian's driver side window. The evidence was when I heard a strange plastic scraping sound. Do any of you have any other friends who have a rig named after a famous horse, AND has carnage FROM a horse? Seems Traveler (yes another famous horse name) decided to taste Ruffians driver side mirror. I don't think this chit will buff out. I may just leave it or try to paint pen fill it and then try to buff a little if only to smooth it out. :happens:
Thread to be con't after 33's are installed. This will be Ruffians last off road mod for the year. Next year, custom fab'd armor!!! Yes the skids & sliders will not be anything like what most others are driving around with.
