Running without A/C

My 1996 RZN-185 manual is undergoing something of a rebuild. I recently had to remove the A/C lines running up the inner wing and realised that the system had leaskedout all pressure.

I've stripped off he compressor, condenser, dryer and all pipes forward of the bulkhead. I've got a new condensor coming and will of course replace the dryer when i want to recommission the system.

I see no reason not to run the truck without the A/C compressor / belt / idler, but will this cause any damage? Uneven loading of the front crank pulley?

I'm 99% sure there are in impliactions to removing the systyem wounder if anyone has any contrary experience?

Yup. Did it with mine when my compressor started making crazy noises! Just disconnected the belt Until I could afford a new one.

You'll be fine to run it with no A/C.

No AC belt to pull = less strain on the engine,extra HP and fuel economy.

If I didn't live in an oven, I would remove all A/C components from my rig.
 
Definitely noticed a difference when I got the new compressor and hooked it all back up! So much more responsive without that belt!

i just did a complete rebuild on my truck and haven't spent the money to install the ac. one bolt from the ac bracket goes through the motor mount. i went and bought a shorter bolt for it from the hardware store
 
As far as fuel economy and power goes removing the belt is no better than just leaving the A/C turned off.

There's no real noticeable improvement. There may be an imagined one.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Whether the A/C is on or off, that pulley is still spinning and that's additional load on the engine. Small or large, gains are gains when it comes to reducing the mechanical resistance your engine has to overcome.
 
I'd just take the belt off. This is the one time where having multiple belts to adjust is actually a good thing. Plus you don't have to play the guessing game with the all-stars at Autozone or wherever for a shorter serpentine.

I'm taking the system off as the condensor is bad, so I will need that and a new dryer. Also a new set of O-rings, and I'll probably rebuild the compressor for good measure. The system was not working when I bought the truck.

I'm building the truck for winter expeditions in Russia, so absolutely no need for A/C. If I charged the system up it would probably just go bad from lack of use.

I doubt it will make much difference in fuel economy, though for sure it accounts for some load, but more importantly it's one less belt and two fewer bearings (compressor clutch and idler) that are continually moving and have the potential to go wrong.

Eventually I will re-fit it before going to hotter climates. My only worry is making sure the two ports sticking out of the bulkhead are perfectly sealed from dust and moisture.
