Runner not starting again with new crankshaft position sensor installed

Hi guys, I recently changed out a crankshaft position sensor because the runner was having starting issues and I was given the code p0335. At first it started off normal after the new sensor was installed but now it has gone back to doing the same thing. Runner won't start. It will start after many MANY attempts. Google says the camshaft sensors could be bad as well because the crank sensor and cam sensors talk to each other. I'm at a loss. Can someone point me in the right direction before I have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop.

Thanks in advance

Aftermarket Sensor ?
Inspect the Wiring Harness and Pigtail Connector?

Hal effect sensors are... Weird. It is possible the sensor is bad.

It's more likely you have a plug issue.

I'd do 2 things. Pull the sensor and inspect the end for any damage. It looks like the end of the 4runner ones are metal, so you'll see any scraping/rubbing.
And then double check the connector end. I've seen so many issues over the years with plugs, plug wiring. Sometimes clips break and you dont realize it, and what happens is the connector inside pops out just enough when you plug it in that it doesn't make a good connection that stays, but if you visually inspect it, it looks fine and seems fine. So I'll unplug it and tug on each wire individually to see if anything moves or pulls out.

If you got actual physical damage on the end of the sensor, you ... have other problems.

But more than likely you have a bad connection that is shaking loose, or a bad sensor.

Hal effect sensors .. again, they are weird. They have a specific distance read range, and if the inside is.. a bit off, they can do weird intermittent things.

My other vehicle basically runs off a hal effect sensor. The quality of the sensor can determine alone how well your vehicle runs. Luckily a guy just developed and tested a new one over the last few years and I of course got to test one and... oooooooh yeah baby. The difference is there without scanners and gauges.

Like others said, closely inspect the plug. In my experience, wires are prone to being dislodged from the back of plugs on the Toyota wiring harness. Twice now I’ve had to repair plugs on the driver’s side secondary air valve after replacing spark plugs.
