How many of you tow or carry your bike with you?

In October I bought a TRD and now plan on hanging a small -250- Janus motorcycle on the back. After 300,000 miles riding both slabs and trails; look forward to driving across country in air conditioned/heated comfort and out of the rain and snow! Once at the campsite or the hotel go putt around.

Thanks, kinda like the "old" look. That photo is not mine for there is a three month wait on the build. I chose burgundy as the color. Can't wait to pick it up in early May. Perhaps go out to Oveland Expo and putt about.

Very cool Janus , those are beautiful bikes.
Hopefully this will be the year I get down to Deals Gap with bike in tow. We've been there a few times on vacation, last was fall of '15. Need to trade enclosed trailer for a little larger model and I'll be good to go. A coworker of mine went down with a pack of Harley's last year and had a blast. Wife doesn't like to ride so it'll be a solo affair, think I'd prefer it that way. Allow one day down & one day back for travel, stay at Fontana Lodge for 2-3 nights. Just need to decide what bike to take . Maybe both.

I carry by WR450 on a home built hitch carrier. (better/stronger than the factory stuff) Never had an issue but it does squat my 1996/256K suspension. Longest with the 4 Runner was only a 5hr one way trip. Used the same carrier on a suburban for a 24hr one way trip again with no issue at all.

I carry my YZ250 on a hitch carrier, but no way to carry my VFR800.

I actually bought the 4runner so that I could carry the bike to the mountains and sleep in the back. Adventures are always much better when there are bikes or motorcycles involved. I just wish I could carry the gas can on this rack too, and I need to get a better trailer hitch, because the current stock 03 hitch doesn't allow the rack to slide all the way into the receiver without taking the spare tire off :redbrick: I will be finally installing my Airlift 1000 bags this weekend to help level the truck when loaded down by the bike.

I also plan to build a bicycle rack for the VFR eventually.. :thumb3:

In theory, I think you can carry the vfr800 on the back of a v8 4runner with the factory v8 hitch rated at 700/730 tongue weight, no?

520lbs wet + 100lbs versahaul hitch.

Or is the 700-730 tongue weight for a weight-distributing trailer?..

In any case, I've done it once with a 438lbs (wet) 500cc bike last year, with factory air suspension. Didn't really notice it out back.

If everything works out, I hope to do weekend trips where I effectively camp out of the 4runner and ride out during the day to areas within a 10 hour drive...

If gas was any cheaper like it is in the states, it would be a lot easier to justify... $40 tanks instead of $90...

Good to see other motorcyclists here. I have a small trailer which is set up for hauling either of my bikes and I was planning to use that. I have used a hitch rack in the past, but it was on my Tundra with a class 3 hitch and more tongue capacity. I might us it to haul my WR250R, but not the big bike. Honestly the trailer is nice because I can haul some additional items on that and it would leave the 4R for me and a bed.

The Janus bikes are sweet! Really would love to try one out some day, but haven't seen them in my area yet...

Loving that ZRX as well! I had a 2001 a few years ago, mostly stock and absolutely loved it! One of my all time favorite, if not favorite motorcycle.

Currently have a R1200RS, which has everything you would ever want in a bike but seems to be overkill for my style of riding lately. Now with the T4R in the barn, maybe I'll down size on the bike and get something more suitable and tow to destinations as I'm really not doing any cross-country rides anymore. Heat/AC and driving in shorts on the way to the destination sure is nice sometimes :madgrin:

I really love the ZRX. The front end swap and new rear shocks have made such a massive difference in handling. It's a nice upgrade in the looks department, too.

I want to build a nice hardtail bike now.

Nice ZRX! I had a 2002 red one, totaled it and re-built it with the help of some ZRXOA members as black one with white and red stripes. I've now gone the dual sport route, owning a DRZ 400, then a Husqvarna TE 630 and now a BWM R1200GS.

My interest in dual sporting motorcycles is what drew me to the 4Runner, hoping to do some of the same routes and similar events with my wife and kids along with me.
