Running Board Adjustments

I understand you can easily remove and reinstall running boards. However, can you adjust the running board placement?

The factory positioning of the running boards has the outer edge protruding several inches out beyond the edge of the rocker panel. I would like to move the running boards in a few inches towards the drive train, so the edge of the running board is flush under the rocker panel. Is it possible to to make this adjustment, or is the Running Board placement set for just one position only?

I just put my running boards back on today; you'd actually have to custom make brackets and drill new holds if you wanted to do that. I'm pretty sure it can be done though. Granted, it wouldn't line up perfectly, and would look a little awkward. I'm not sure if there would be clearance issues with anything on the edges, though.

Have you looked into aftermarket options?

No, I haven't looked at other options. And it really wouldn't be worth re-drilling the boards if that is requried.

I will probably leave the RBs on as they are until my trip out west later this summer, and I will take them off at that time.

It's just that it would be a lot more convenient with the boards moved inwards a few inches, so you could stand closer to the vehicle when entering. Also, you wouldn't have to worry about getting road grime on your clothes.

On the down side, I wonder if removal of the running boards will allow more mud and dirt to get slung up into the underside of the door?

I didn't really find that the car got more dirty with the running boards off. There is that chance though, and the chance of more rock chips. My car gets really dirty somehow, and it may have gotten dirtier with the running boards off faster. But it got really dirty even with them on. I just decided to put them back on as I just wanted the change of appearance again..
