I just purchased a 4Runner Trail Edition and looking for somewhere local to purchase a running board. Anyone got any stories or recommendations?

I would get Rock sliders with kick outs to protect your rig and to server as a "step".
Running boards are going to reduce your ground clearance when you go off roaring and I would imagine you would be doing that with a TE
