running board removal...how to?

alright, so i've had my 98' 4runner for a few months, and since i got it, i've wondered what it would be like without running boards. i would greatly appreciate the extra clearance, plus it gives the illusion of a lift. anyway, i've looked through the posts and they're full of people asking if removing them would be a good idea or not. i've decided that i want them off, so my next step is to learn how.

from someone that has done this on a 98, could you tell me how? or point me in the right direction to a website with a how-to guide or the like?

thanks.

I removed mine to clean the dirt that got caugth in the corners out and to see what it looked like without them..

All I had to do was crawl under the side of the truck and unscrew about 6 nuts/bolts then slide it down towards the back of the truck and it comes right off.

mine is different because i have an 01 sport with limite flares but... there should be three arms down under and you want to unbolt the arms from the frame which area attached to the running board

then there will be a screw on one of the end caps or both.. one end cap for limited flares could be both for the sr5 half size flares.

Its best to peak under to see how everything is attached.. took me 15 minutes

What he said.

15 minutes tops thats if you remove all bracket bolts. I think the look is alot better as well.
