Running Boards Info Needed

I am shopping for running boards for my 5th gen and almost fell out my chair when my local dealer quoted me $700 and change to purchase and install.

I did a bit of research and read an old thread in the forum about a place out of SC that sold toyota parts - trdsparks.com. I spoke with the guy there and he really didn't have a great explanation why his running boards are so munch cheaper ($285 plus shipping) other than the parts come from "toyota southeast" and not "toyota national" I didn't get the sense that there would be any material difference in the part itself. As a side, they did sell the "toyota national" part and it is $375...still much cheaper than my local guy.

Any thoughts?? I am skiddish to pull the trigger sight unseen.

We have those installed on our sr5. Wife loves them. When I mounted them, the hardware seems like it will hold up to the northeast weather. Brackets were solid and powdercoated black. Running board itself is aluminum. Time will tell. I paid $318 shipped from d:ck dyer Toyota.

Those are mine. They are sold pending my receipt of the buyers money order.

I really think they're very nice. The boards are basically one big aluminum extrusion, with plastic end caps and top. Mounting is very simple with 3 galvanized and coated brackets on each side held to the underside by 2 bolts each. All of the hardware appears to be stainless. If you have any mechanical skill at all, and some basic socket wrenches, you should be able to install them in a couple hours taking your time.

I sold mine because I really don't need them, and they just don't fit with the look I want for my truck.
 
Considering my dealer put the Toyota running boards on my TE for just over $400 I think you were being taken to the cleaners. Did you try other dealers?
 
I don't know what type of running board you are looking for, but I bought a set for my 2010 TE from Autotruckaccessories.com. The cost was $170 plus shipping ($30). Be advised that brackets are included for all models except the Trail model, and I would have had to order my brackets at an extra cost if I wouldn't have made them myself.
 
Hey - I bought those exact same runnig boards from Sparks Toyota in SC. Yes indeed, $285 shipped.

They are stock Toyota running boards. Look good, fit perfect. Very easy to install with only a socket wrench.

Go for it. And yeah, the stealerships in NY tried the old $1000-quote for the same things to be installed. seriously.
 
OEM/factory running boards (2011)

The OEM/factory running boards on my wife's new 2011 limited are surprisingly shallow. Maybe shallow isn't the word.... you can't stand on them while facing the side of the vehicle (like if you were putting things on the roof). There isn't enough space between the bottom of the vehicle and the running board for the toe of my shoe to fit very well.

We wanted them mostly for the kids to be able to get into this tall beast and they work well for that. I'm just surprised they aren't more useful.
 
Am picking up a TE tomorrow. Dealer had an add on for $899 for running boards. I asked if they were made of gold. They agreed to remove them. It isn't just NY...
