running boards - new accessory?

I know this topic has been talked about to death on previous threads but I just heard from dealer (NY area) that there are official Toyota "cut to fit" running boards coming out next week for the 4Runner. This will apparently be an official Toyota accessory.
Has anyone else heard this?
I am interested because most of the dealers in my area will add after-market nerf boards to the Runner and I sort of wanted to wait for official running boards.

I've bugged my dealer about once a month about running boards. About 3 weeks ago they said they heard a 'rumor' of them being available in mid-late summer, was told to call back or swing in at the end of July for more info. This might have been what they heard?

I assume you have after market running boards, unless you've got the Canadian 4runner. Yours were installed at the dealer?

Mine came w/ boards installed at the port. They had a toyota barcode sticker underneath so I assume they were the "real ones." Perhaps the shortage is regional?

I already took 'em off & sold them; never wanted them to begin with. Took off the rocker panels at the same time - feels almost like I got a 4" lift!

I see you are in FL, must have had the South East Edition running boards.

I think we (or I am) looking for a more custom look, like the ones I saw on a 4th the other day, all the trim matched up perfectly, looking like one perfect smooth system, not an 'aftermarket' bolt on look.

I really want running boards that will serve the purpose of helping people get in the rig. I have parents and in laws (in their 70's and 80's) and I really can't use the 4runner when they're with me. That's why I think flat boards will be better than the nerf boards. Also, noticed that wife in a short skirt, high heels can't get in easy.
The reason I'm waiting for Toyota to come out with them is that I have the (mis?)perception that they will have a better look and fit. but maybe not?

I would really love to see Toyota come out with running boards that we could remove the rocker panels then attach the boards in their place. Obviously their design would have be more than a horizontal board as it would need to match up to the fenders/trim. Maybe next year :)

Yeah, those RBs are not pretty. Plus, that extra chrome does not look like a factory design.

I have the same on mine, and I'd argue that they do look and fit like they're OEM. Oddly enough they come with Toyota branded installation instructions. I'll be curious to see if the "new" running boards being discussed are actually different.
