Running boards off

I managed to take off my running boards today. It really does make it seem higher. Now all I need to do is buy the front mud flaps. What do yall think?

Definately looks better!:awais: I think that removing the running boards is probably one of the best free things I ever did to my Runner.

Not only does it look better IMO, but when I get in and out my pants don't get dirty before work lol. Thanks for the complement.

It looks good until rocks start getting kicked up on the side panels and chipping your paint.

Oh and I don't have any problems with rocks chipping my paint.

hey evan, it looks a MILLION times better! looks more like mine now

when i didnt have the mudflaps, i got a lot of mud, not much paint chipping tho...i get that only on my hood

how long does it take to get them off and what tools will i need?

With a torque wrench and a lift it took me 15 minutes. I want to say it was a 13 mm, but I can not remember off hand. It was only 8 bolts on each side.

You guys with no running boards and no front flaps and having no problem with paint also don't live where it snows on a regular basis and I recommend some sort of protection from flying road debris and the sand and salt in the winter for those who do see a fair amount of inclement weather since no flaps will do a number on your lower rocker panels.

I live right by you. I've never had a problem with salt or sand. I've had my running boards off for a year or so and my paint and everything is fine

Hey Evan it definately looks better, you might want to think about taking off the flares too. I took them off on mine and I think it looks cleaner.

I live right by you. I've never had a problem with salt or sand. I've had my running boards off for a year or so and my paint and everything is fine

Check back in a few years since a rock is just waiting. Salt isn't an issue here fortunatly but start paying attention the more you drive and you will see more and more nicks and they will add up.

My friend had removed his boards 5 years ago and the front edge where a flap would be is pretty beat up.

It also does matter how much you drive a year and my friend puts almost 18k a year on his Runner so the miles are showing a bit.
