Running different length springs for rear.

So my 4runner has some crazy lean in the rear. The only way I fixed it was adding a 1.5in spacer in the rear left. But that caused my shocks to loose travel so every time I hit a bump my car would jump.

Currently running OME 895's. Was wondering if I could run OME 895 on rear left and OME 895E on rear right. Length in 15mm different and springs rates are the same.

Another option is to just switch over to OME 895E for both and just add the daystar spacer to the rear left.

Currently have a winch/bumper on OME 885s in front.

Any opinions?

Is it always leaning? Becuase it could ve something as simple as you turning as you pull into your driveway and it hasn't had a chance to settle out before you park it. Aside from that, is it overloaded to driver side? Even with a full tank of gas I dont notice a lean. I think addressing the root cause or at least knowing what it is will lead to the best solution.

Yes its Always leaning. No weight, I actually have a box of all my recovery/offroad gear in the back right side to help even it out, but it doesnt help much.

we run similar setups i believe. i have 5100s with OME 883/895e. the front and rear coils have a longer spring that OME (aus) recomends putting on one side. i disregarded that and had the springs installed longer on the drive side and from that i dont notice much lean at all. both of the longer front and rears are on the driver side.

good luck...a 1.5" spacer seems drastic!?

1.5 seems like a lot but it works.

My front left was almost 1.5 inches lower than the right. and the rear left almost 2.
Just adding the rear 1.5 spacer to the left leveled it out. So now the front left is only .5" lower than the right side. and rear is even left/right.

Im thinking about swapping the 895 with some superflex coils and adding the spacer that way. Might help with the jolting rear end.

It's very possible that your lean is caused by a front spring being too soft, especially if it takes an 1-1/2" spacer in the rear to make it level.

I'm gonna agree with this concept. All things being equal, the springs should be the same size and lift equally. If your rear end is shorter on one end there is something else amiss. I'd eliminate everything else before putting spacers in.

If it were my car I'd rule out every stupid thing I could think of. Realistically, I don't think the axle is somehow bent, nor do I think the mounting points could be jacked up, but check them out just for kicks. What about the sway bar and links? Confirm both links are correct and that somehow a longer one didn't somehow get installed or some other stupid thing. Again, rule everything out that you can in the rear and then look at the front.

If nothing else measure the distance from the axle to the ground on both ends and the distance from the spring seats to the body mount without the shocks and springs. I know it'd be a huge pain to remove the springs and everything, but you'd have to do it to confirm where the problem is. I'm getting repetitive but there's gotta be something going on to cause that lean.

Im running OME 885 which are for v8s and I have a v6. Even then I had the lean. I put the 1.5inch spacer in the rear after reading about it in the toyota120 forums. Lots of other people do this too. It weird with the 4runners. Some people have lots of lean and some dont have it at all.

I now have a bumper and winch and the front has dropped but its not soft.

I have no front/rear sway bars lol.
lots of people run the 1.5inch spacer. it doesnt actually raise the car 1.5 inches though, a little less i think

Think about this; if the rear leans the front has to lean also, it can't just lean on one end. If this doesn't make sense to you, lay your phone on the table and lift up one corner and see what happens at the other end. When you do have lean, there will generally be one corner that has a bad spring or has more weight on it. There is no way to just look at the vehicle and diagnose which corner has the problem. You can add preload to either the front spring or the rear spring on the side that is low and get the vehicle to sit level. If we assume the front spring is a little weak, you would need to add a lot of preload to the rear spring to get the car to sit level. The spring rate of the front springs is around 600 lb/in while the rear is around 200 lb/in so it would only take 1/3 as much preload on the front coil to achieve the same effect as the rear. If you want to do some testing, swap the rear springs and see if anything changes. Assuming that the load in the rear is rather symmetrical from side to side, if the lean doesn't change then it's the front spring that needs more preload.

Thanks I'll try swapping the rear springs. I've already tried a 1/4" spacer on the front left. It just raises the left higher than the right side and barely does anything to the rear.
