I recently installed a Scan Guage II trip computer. Its a pretty nifty device that tracks real time MPG plus several other engine details plus able to pull engine codes. It reads the OBD II computer.

One of the things its capable of doing is reading the coolant temperature. I noticed since installing it in my 4Runner that it seems to run between 205F and 218F. It never gets hotter then 218F so its not officially overheating by any means but its definitely 25 degrees or so warmer on average then my other vehicles. The norm is usually about 190F and most cars don't budge much. Of interest the temperature gauge never moves past the halfway point. So I would have no idea it was running a little hot if it was not for the Scan Gauge.
What is the opinion here? Its not officially overheating but I wonder if the thermostat is being a bit stubborn opening when it should? Or perhaps these engines just run a little hotter?
