Running really rough and making a ticking nosie.

Alright well unfortunately I already drove it to Advance and back to the house but I'm pretty sure she is gonna sit there until I get this figured out.

Got the code for a misfire on #'s 3 and 6, guy pretty much summed that up to needing a coil pack considering I just replaced the plugs and wires 6 months ago.

Just read the first thread that came up for a misfire on those cylinders and read hakunamatata's thread about him having to get a new injector. I'm going to let her cool down a bit and go check everything out. I knew I should have just replaced the damn coils when I did the plugs!

I'm wondering if there aren't some ways of telling which one of these is causing the problem or if it is something completely different.

#3 and #6 are on the same coil pack, so coil pack, lead and plugs are all suspects. Spark energy is in series from coil across gap on #3 through block then through gap on#6 then back through wire to coil. Any open or high resistance in that circuit will cause both plugs to misfire. Swap coil pack with another to rule that in or out. Inspect and/or change plugs. Swap wires if they are due and at least ohm check #3/#6 wire.

Yeah that sure is a bad feeling... I was thinkin' I just lost $300 for new coil packs! Also made me realize I need a code reader really bad, ugh I guess I need a scanguage!

That is what happens to any car if it lives long enough in Columbia, SC (I got my MBA at USC; the summer heat on Green St I swear killed my old Celica when it shot a rod).

New plugs and wires and you should be good to go. The Scangauge is well worth it.
 
Heh heh heh..... Whats wrong with the plug? ;)

I pulled my 150,000 mile FACTORY plugs out of my current 3rd gen and they looked better than that... Maybe a defective plug...
 
Did you gap them to .043~.044? I'd chalk it up to a defective plug. I do wonder if the center electrode is sloshing around in the crankcase (could you see if it broke or is it all gone)? I have seen terminals come off plugs, but never an electrode.
 
I had a wiring harness that goes on the left side of the intake manifold work it self loose one time. It never ran as rough as it did then. Bolted it back up and problem fixed. Bad gas has cause that for me too as well as spark plugs. Retorque all plugs to b sure.
