Rust near shock

Should this concern me? Passenger side looks fine. This is the rear drivers side shock support. Expensive or cheap fix?

Do you go wheeling?

Your car looks pretty rust free. Take a screw driver and see if it goes through. If it doesn't you are good!

get a wire brush and attachement like this clean as much as you can, brush on some used oil, rust coverter, or brush on some fluid film. you might only be able to use an are-soil on the top. shock mount. Should out live the car if you are in miami.

I'd be more worried about that rubber shock bushing than the mount itself. That mount is a very beeffy piece of metal--I had a good look at it while my frame was off. It's hard to tell, but it looks like rust-colored rubber that is flaking off, more than lost metal. I'd leave it, and when it's time for shocks, which I suspect is not so distant, clean up what rust there is with a wire wheel and POR15 it.

Oh and there should be a washer between the the frame and lower bushing.

I'm going through the same issue. Except mine pushed through. Stick your hand up top and see if any big chunks come out. If so, be prepared for the shock to push through. Because I kept picking up big chunks of rusted metal. And later it rusted throug.

Clean it up if it's in good shape. And drill the drain hole to bigger one

Thanks. I'm only looking at it because those shocks will soon be 86 anyway. I'll take a wire brush to it and see what happens.

Update

Ended up being rust around the weld. Not sure why except the drain was plugged. Brushed it all up. Unplugged the drain and hit it with some fluid film. The coils look like they are sitting a little low so I'm gonna go ahead and do rear shocks and coils.
