rust on bottom of 2005?

i bought a used 2005 4runner not long ago. recently i noticed the axles below the car and the stock skid plate seem to be slightly rusting. is this anything i should be concerned with?

what's the best way to prevent it from spreading? wd-40?

I usually check the undercarriage every month for rust spots. I either sand or grind these spots clean and then some primer/paint to seal it up. A coat of wax to overkill it too. Not too many spots.

I was surprised however at the amount of rust and scratches on my freshly delivered '07's frame. Just patched them up when I brought it home. A lot happens during transport I guess. You might also want to check your front tow hooks. Sometimes during transport they will anchor your truck via the front tow hooks and will take some paint off of them. I noticed this early on when I was detailing my truck for the first time and was surprised at the amount of rust that already formed.

Couldn't resist. Go with the sand and paint treatment. Just spraying oil on it will not last and will attract dust and dirt.

When I took my snow tires off of my 4Runner I noticed a bunch of rust spots on the undercarriage of my 4Runner.
At the end of May when I visit a friend who has a lift I plan on using POR15 on the rust spots and then top coating it with paint.
If I remember to take my camera along I will take some photos of the before, during and after stages of the process.

i have rust everywhere. I live in erie, PA so the roads are salted like everyday during the winter and i drive on the beach during the summer....the sand is pretty much like sand paper so it takes of any undercoating you do have off. I try to spray undercoating on it now and then to help. should have invested in the dealership undercoating right when i got it but i didnt think about the conditions i would be driving in. If you see little spots i wouldnt worry about it haha

There is no need to paint over POR15. It comes in flat black just like frame paint so unless you want a special color painting it would be overkill.
