rust on rear crome bumber.

Just noticed my rear bumper starting to rust.
I know this is common in areas that salt the roads.
Is there anything I can do about this? My T4R is 8 years old w/84k and very little rust..I'd like to keep it that way!!
Maybe a bumper sicker??

The way the bumper is designed it has a lip on the back that holds a lot of debris. SO you may have quite a bit of sand and salt built up back there. First I would rinse it all out, if you haven't already and then try to keep it as clean as you can. But if its already rusting its probably going to keep going, so maybe start looking for a replacement, which aside from custom there are very few options for 3rd gens.

I have the same problem. It's only going to get worse. i have a 97' with 120,000 miles and that is the only part of the truck that has rust. I was hoping over the winter someone would rearend me,but no luck. I just ordered the center section on E-Bay last week and I got the bumper bolts from the dealer, so I will be installing relatively soon. Someone else on here had a good idea to paint the inside of the replacement when I get it. I may do that. Search for rear bumper replacement and you will see the thread I started about my issue.

After a closer look, there is a small crack at the top.
And when I washed it the water leaked though. What I thought was rust was just dried up rust colored water.
It wiped up clean. There still is a crack though.
I will take your advise and wash under that lip really well.
I dont think it needs to be replace yet...:biggrin2:

I'm out in California, and a lightly wadded up piece of tinfoil dipped in Dr. Pepper cleaned up ALL rust on my chrome bumpers. Cool trick... But, we don't deal with salt out here! Good luck...

I have heard about this and heard coke also works really well
