Rust on undercarriage, deal breaker for purchase?

That is the higher pressure line for the power steering, and I could only wish mine looked that good (which is why I know what it is, because I’m planning to change it this fall). I would definitely consider changing though, even though it’s not as bad as mine because if it blows because of rust, you will be left stranded, or risk burning up the PS pump. They seem to be available and somewhat affordable on RockAuto just as an FYI...

That looks significantly better than most from the rust belt to me. Where's it from? Personally I don't see anything concerning, but I'm sure others will chime in to back up my opinion or point out something I missed.

a bit hard to distinguish between dirt and rust in some spots, but doesn't look bad at all. the skid plates will always look worse than the rest of the frame.

This is how the 04 I just bought looked like and I got it home and it turned out there were 2 perfed spots. Small, but nevertheless. I’ve since repaired them.

Just make sure you do a thorough check rather than just visual and you’ll be good.

Anyone living where salt is used to combat ice and snow, just have to wash the under carriage of your truck, wait until the temp. is above freezing and hose your frame and everything else even under hood where salt water gets.

It's the only way you can keep your frame and everything else from becoming just good metal from being slowly eaten away.

Too much rust?

Is this too much rust to consider purchasing? Truck is Originally from east coast now residing in Cali. 2004 v8 limited. 154k mileage. I’ve been search for one for a while and the rest of the vehicle is in excellent shape but is the rust too much? Thanks.

That looks pretty good to me. Mostly on welds. Less than my 2008 and if it is not exposed to ongoing rusting conditions (ie road salt), then it shouldnt be a problem at all

- only other area id look at is radiator support.

If you like the truck, my advice is that rust shouldnt hold you back
