Rust under my 4Runner... what can I spray it with?

What spray is available to spray over rust without sanding to kill and contain rust.. I ask because I can’t reach areas.. car is from NY I am in FL now so I shouldn’t come across salt again.. thanks guys

POR-15 or chassis saver I have heard work well. I did por-15 on a few small spots I had. It goes right over rust, I think you just have to make sure it’s mostly clean first.

I’m in MA, so I’ve had to deal with this on mine obviously. I opted to sandblast the frame, then prime and paint it black. I probably should’ve used POR-15 in place of the primer, but it didn’t fit my timeframe for when I was able to do the blasting, so I just used red oxide primer. Keep in mind, that just spraying any type of coating will not entirely solve the problem because a lot of the rust comes through from INSIDE the frame! Eastwood makes an internal frame coating that many have used on here with good success, but haven’t done mine yet. I do plan to try it in the spring/summer though because my truck is in awesome condition at 130k miles, and I plan to keep it a LONG time, so I don’t hate to have the rust cancer end it’s life early!

There is absolutely no product made you can spray up into "I cant reach areas" and stop rust. To stop rust, you must be able to have access to it and properly prep the surface. POR 15 is an amazing product that works but its success depends on the surface prep. Not properly prepped and it will be flaking off in a year.

If it is just a thin layer of surface rust. A wire brush followed by Rustoleum rust primer will work. It there is pitting, bubble, rot, you have to go por 15. More than likely it will require body off the frame.

That internal frame coating stuff is snake oil. You are wasting time and money. There is no magic stuff you can spray on pitting rust and get it to stop.

If the rust is due to road brine from up north. Unfortunately, if it saturates the frame and allowed to sit, salt actually embeds itself in the metal and continues to eat away. A good hosing after going through the stuff would have stopped it.

I will never buy a vehicle from up north of VA/

So you are saying you can spray this up into areas you cannot get to, on the dirt, residual salt, and loose rust, and it will stop the rust on the frame? Wow......great stuff.
