Rust!

Hello you all.
I have 96 Limited with 145k and the back bumper is rusting. I purchased the vehicle about 5 months ago and now rust is coming through the rear bumper. The seller must of used some chrome paint to hide the issue since it was not noticeable when I purchased it....took a look at the underside of the bumper and there is plenty of rust..doooh!.
So what do you guys think is my best option. Thinking of purchasing a new rear bumper but I really don't know how involved that would be.
Thanks for any insight.

Here in West Virginia I have seen that on a few 2nd gen. runners. You may want to check on ebay. It wouldn't be that hard to replace since you would be reusing the brackets and hardware. If you wanted to spend a little more money you could get an aftermarket bumper that would be stronger and may even last longer. Good luck,

Thanks guys...I think a new bumper is in order. Think I am going to wait a couple of months til spring...Damn New England weather

I have a 96 SR5 that did the same thing. I see alot of the early 3rd gens that are starting to show rust on the bumpers. Luckily you can replace just the center piece in the back, and I was able to salvage one from a wrecked 98. I sanded the inside down to bare metal with a die grinder and sprayed it with a thick coat of primer before I put the new one on.

and thensome!
