About a year ago my 4R died due to a head gasket leak. White smoke coming out the tail pipe and low performance was a for sure sign that this cars days are numbered unless tended. And about a week ago my father and I finally begin to revitalize our once mobile 4R. We originally thought at the beginning of the disaster that the head(s) had cracked, but thankfully it turns out the head gaskets were only botched. HOWEVER since I had left it in this condition for so long some of the piston cylinder walls got a bit rusty and corroded. They're not in terrible condition, only 2 walls are corroded and the others are fine. We cleaned the 2 corroded a bit and were eventually able to turn the crankshaft over manually. We feel this engine is salvageable, but we need to get rid this rust and corrosion so here are my questions.
Is using emery cloth, soft brass brushes and/or hard nylon brushes a good solution to removing the corrosion?
Has anyone done this before and if yes what did you do and use?
FYI swapping the engine or removing the cylinders is not an option.
