Rusted rocker repair question

I am in the middle of repairing my rusted rockers. I have the drivers side cut out and ready to weld back in. My plan was to weld and then apply seam sealer before diving into the body work.

Does the long spot welded seam joining inner and outer rocker get 100% sealed? If water gets into the rocker from say a water crossing... how does it drain back out?

They are supposed to have drain holes at the bottom, going along the pinchweld.

You mean the very bottom pinch weld? It has periodic ex-dentations (versus indentations) where they separate and provide drainage. If you look at an intact truck you will see them.

If you have a sunroof the front drains are routed so they drain down into the hollow area and out those holes you're wanting to seal. Easy enough to extend the hose and route outside the rocker area.
Ends of the front sunroof drain hoses can be found behind the front kick panels.

IIRC the front of the rockers area also open, covered only by the wheel well liners.

Ok yes I did notice those indentations. The seam was rusted shut I guess, kinda felt like some type of sealant when I took it apart. I will drill some holes and spot weld it back as the factory did.


I will seam seal every thing above the pinch weld.

I have a gallon of fluid film to treat the interiors, I'm just not sure how to get it in there. Maybe there is something better to use?
If it is supposed to weep out the water I would not want to treat it with something like eastwoods frame saver kit.

Remove the plastic trim pieces that go over the edge of the carpet. There are holes in from above. The section in the very back by the back wheel can be accessed by removing the trim piece over the c pillar. There is a white clip in a hole which you remove. Use a flexible hose attachment for spraying.
