Would the Sonoran Steel 1.2 be good for a daily driver, or should I stick with the Toytec Ultimate lift? I recently got a decent tax return that I wasn't expecting, so I thought maybe I should just go all out with the 1.2. Is there a lot more body roll with the l.c. springs on-road compared to the OME set-up? Suggestions please!!!!

SS 7.2 or OOME set up... Save some coin, unless you plan on wheeling hard...:fro:

Kregg is right, even SS says the 1.2 is the "ultimate in off road prowess". If you're looking for a good all-around setup, go with the 7.2 or OME.

Well I have the 1.2 on my DD and it isnt bad at all. I will say save the 500 and go with the Toytec Ultimate kit as the few people I know that have it are very happy with its performance on and off-road. The 1.2 rear works a little better off-road then the TT kit but if main purpose is DD then I dont feel it is worth the extra coin. That being said you cant go wrong with either.

HAHAHA!!! Yeah, man. I've been sweating it for months! I've been pumping all my money into education lately so when I got my tax return I figured it was time to spend some money I something more........ fun. Still, that check has still been sitting on my desk for a few weeks just looking up at me. It was a big decision but ever since I got off the phone with the guys at Sonoran Steel I haven't felt any stress about it. I'll take that as my brain telling me I did the right thing. I'm really excited. Will certainly post up some pics when it's time.:naughty::D:banana::guitar3::pimp::driving:

I was hesitant about dropping $1300 on a coil spring lift as well. I can tell you now, I have no regrets what so ever. I know I bought the most complete and comprehensive lift available. If you look at all the parts you get, there is value to be had.

Yeah... I'm really looking forward to the day I hear the door bell ring and see the UPS truck outside. :dancin:

BTW S.S. 1.2 and S.S. 7.2 are the same price

OME kit from Toytec is not though...

My thoughts - In today's economy there is no such thing as "extra" funds... Any surplus for me heads directly into the rainy day fund... I see clouds in the distance. But that's a whole 'nother argument there...

For a D.D. rig - If you're wanting "stock ride", don't lift it. That's how you keep the stock ride quality. If you feel that you must because of worn out parts, then do the tall '99 4WD coils and swap out the shocks. Still using factory parts for a vehicle of the same weight, dimensions, uses, etc...

Daily driver / weekend wheeler - My suggestion is OME kit from Toytec, and OME Sport Shocks, carefully research the weight rating for the coil combo you want, and pair it with the gear/armor you want on your ride. If you are keeping the stock bumpers, go with the lightest load bearing coils, may not yeild as much lift, but they'll ride better. And don't justify buying the heavier coils by saying "If I carry this much once, I'll need theses coils", because everyday that you aren't loaded, you'll want to kick yourself for it.

Weekend Warrior / D.D. - SS 1.2 is a great lift. Steve is an awesome vendor and knows what he's talking about. I have his 1.2 kit on my truck, granted my truck sits in the driveway most of the week. I could drive it everyday if I wanted. The LC coils in the rear are tall, and they are soft. Body roll will be multiplied by lifting the truck by any means. You'll be making a vehicle with a high COG, even higher. That's physics (or somethin'...lol). My truck rides like a lifted SUV, not a Cadillac. Off road, it hangs with the best, but there are countless other factors to consider offroad, that's another topic in itself...

Anyways, I hope this helps a little. My suggestion - OME from Toytec. They are regulars in the online Toyota community, frequently post here and on the other boards I'm on, and have always seemed to stand behind their products. I researched for 2-3 years before I pulled the trigger on mine, and for what I need, it's flawless. Let me know if you need to know anything else, I'll be more than happy to help you out.

see my sig. it has been my DD for 2 years.

I'm running Hancook Dynapro AT10 265/75 tires on LC80 wheels. 19-20mpg 80% hwy. 50-mile/day commute, not much traffic.

Thank-you all for the responses! I didn't mention that I do have Ford Escort that I commute to work in part of the time. Though there are days throughout the week that I do enjoy cruising to work in my 4-Runner because its such a great vehicle! I'm an avid sportsman, who frequently ventures off the beaten path on weekends. I wouldn't be doing any rock crawling but some moderate jeep trails and logging roads. I will be towing a two place ATV trailer and dirt bike hitch hauler on occasion, too.

Sounds like you'd be better off with an OME setup. The 4Runner is my DD and the OME kit I got from Toytec has been great for the 2 or 3 times a month I go wheeling. It's only a mild lift (881/906, 3" depending who you ask), but hasn't failed me yet in daily use or off road. With a mild lift and 33's you'll have plenty of clearance and added capability for those times you do decide to go off road. Plus when you lift much higher than that, you'll have trouble with parking garages, which I frequent for work and school. I can't have my radio on in them anymore, or else my antenna will go bye bye. My 4" Firestick takes a beating too, and it sticks maybe 3-4 inches above my roof line.

KellyJ, if I remember correctly, you are using the Toytec top plate spacer with the 881 coils up front. Correct? Do you have problems with over extending your shocks and damaging your cv's? Are you using any trim packers with the 906's? I would definately want at least the 890's for my rig to sit more level.

Yep, using the 1/2" spacer as well as 881's up front. No CV problems at all (keep in mind that I have the differential drop installed as well) and the OME comfort shocks have miles of travel, never been worried about over extending them (this might change when I order sway bar disconnects though) Anyways, yes I am using one 10mm trim packer for the 906's and am gonna order two more to get the truck back to level with the front. That will have to suffice until I get 890's in the back. 906's weren't particularly my choice (was hoping for a level stance, maybe just a tad higher in the front) but since I don't wheel particularly hard I didn't feel it was worth it to swap out rear springs so soon. Plus I didn't wanna deal with the hassle.

I also have the OME setup. The rear is very slightly lower than the front and the front knuckle does touch the spring when the shock is extended fully. Besides that with the sport shocks I love teh ride. Still very comfortable to me and the added confidence of being able to predict how the truck is going to handle on the road.

I've got the OME with LC springs in the back and it does great as my DD! Now that the springs and shocks have broken in and the winch is finally in the bumper I have the same ride on road as my TRD D-cab Taco and the offroad ride is orders of magnitude better! Call Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters and he will set you up with a whole lift kit from OME for about half of the SS kit.
