Safari Rack Cables??

Could someone explain what the reasoning is for putting cables from your safari rack to the front of the vehicle. I have seen some that run to the hood, front quarter panel and front bumper. I also wonder about the wind blowing past the cable at road speed causing vibration. Just curious.

They are to keep branches and what not from smacking the windshield. They serve a great purpose in the jungles of borneo, they serve very little purpose in shopping mall parking lots... but they do look cool.

Well that makes sense. I thought it may be cool to do so I could hang some Christmas lights from them.

I know a 4th Gen guy that has the tabs on his bumper and rack to place them there but he only uses the cables when he travels to heavily wooded areas and yes they are for branch deflectors. Now if you are going to be in a parade or something the Christmas light idea is a good one.
