So my friend has a 85' 4 runner with I think 150,000 miles and its a 4 cylinder, he just bought it recently and I might buy it from him in the future.. My question is, he says the previous owner told him that the truck was actually meant to be used in africa as a safari truck but then the order was cancelled and it stayed in the U.S he said it was heavy duty with steel rims and other stuff, he didn't really know anything about it just that it was meant for safari.... anyone know about this or maybe the guy was just saying these trucks are often used for safari stuff??.... Any input will help, thanks..

My thought on the situation: Why would someone in Africa order a Toyota from a dealership in the Sates when they can get them locally cheaper? And get them with cool stuff like a deisel engine too!
To me, it sounds like a line to sell a rig with steel wheels. Reguardless, if it is in sound condition, it is a good sturdy vehicle to begin with; who cares if it was "special ordered" or not? If it is not toatally sound, who cares if it was owned by a Saudi prince? A junk pile is a junk pile.
If it has the standard North American market equipment, then there is nothing to be hooped over, and thats easy to check.
Nice story tho. If you can theive it from your buddy for a good deal, snag it!
