Safe to run without good scoop guts?

Hey guys I've got a project planned for my hood scoop and need to remove it for possibly a week. Is it safe to drive with it missing? Should I tape it up or block it off some way so air can't travel through it? Doesn't look like any rain is coming this week so water isn't an issue. I should have my project done and the scoop reinstalled within a week.

NO NO the extra downforce will cause a tornado affect causing motor heat not to escape and you can overheat!!!!!

Nothing fancy. I have made friends with dane the led guy and I am abusing out friendship by asking him to make led strips for every open spot on my 4Runner. I'm throwing a strip of red leds in the scoop to hopefully shine out across the hood. Not for any reason whatsoever other then I think it will look neat. I also have a cheap led bar that I got from Amazon for like 20 bucks that looks like it will fit in there. This is what happens when you can't just leave your 4Runner be for awhile.

Since this thread has picked up a little momentum anyone know a trick to get rivets off without damaging the scoop? Should I drill them out? Cut them off with a dremel?

The red lights will look great. I put 2 strips of green LED's in my hood scoop, and I love them.

I had a 2006 Tacoma sport and put a led light bar in it. I'm pretty sure it's the same basic design so you should be able to carefully drill out the rivets and then when you're ready to put the scoop grill back on use some good quality ss hardware with nylock nuts and you be g-to-g! Good luck! Post some pics when you're done.

Could I not just use rivets again when I'm ready?

Ok guys got all the parts in. Looks a bit more intimidating in my hands. Especially since I spent almost 200 bucks on just this scoop. Anyone have any tips before I jump into this. I think I can get in behind the "grill" and leave the rivets in place. Should I just dremel the back off? Maybe make smaller openings with a blade to get exact fit? Don't want to screw this up. Once it's in I can secure it and wire it up.
