saggy rear

My 2000 4runner sr5 is saggin in the back. Is there a particular solution you guys have found to work best? The dealer says they could replace the rear coils if I wanted but i'm worried with the same coils it'll eventually sag again.

i don't tow much but i usually have a bike rack attached to the back and my stereo so it weighs down the back quite a bit.

Performance Products offers a set of aftermarket replacement rear coils that were designed to jack up the rear end for the 2nd generation pickups and 4Runners, which are notorious for that problem. Perhaps they make a set for 3rd gens too.

I used Air Lift bags on the rear of my '98. They were inexpensive, installed easily and were durable. You could adjust the pressure to accommodate any load on the rear (I towed a 4,000 # trailer a lot).

On your 'Runner. you'd need to remove the bump stops inside the coils to install Air Lifts. This worked fine in my '98, as long as I maintained the recommended 5 psi minimum in the bags.

how is the ride affected by the air bags? most likely rougher?? where did you get these air bags from? and did you install them yourself?

The ride was unaffected at 5 psi, somewhat stiffer at the 18 psi i used to level the trailer I towed.

I bought mine from the factory, 2 miles from my home. Most auto parts stores carry them, as does JC Whitney. Go to www.airliftcompany.com for more info.

I installed them myself. Jack up the truck, let the rear axle hang down to spread the spring coils and stuff the bags into the springs through the gap between the coils. Very easily done. I think your truck has bump stops inside the spring coils. Those will have to come out before the bags can be installed
