Same fluids for P/S Pump flush and Tranny Flush?

Hey guys,

The manual says to use a fluid that is Dexron 3. I'm going to change out my power steering pump and do a transmission flush at the same time. Can I use the same fluids for both? Any recommendations on which fluid is the best? I'm seeing redline, mobil-1 and royal purple all getting good recommendations.

Can I use synthetic????

Thanks!

I'd use WS Toyota trans fluid for tranny and any Dex3 for power steer but not the same for both.

That trans calls for Dexron/Mercon ATF fluid. (Generic Ford/GM ATF). I'd get 5qts to be safe if you're doing a drain and refill. If you're doing a flush, you're going to need a lot more than that.

As far as the P.S, just use actual power steering fluid. You can use ATF to top off if necessary but I try not to run it through the whole system. It seems to aerate too easily compared to actual P.S. fluid.

Works for me. Thanks!
