Same question w/ a different application

I know this same question has been asked a million times but my application is different.

Need a lift kit for the wifes SR5. Does not need to be performance related at all . We live in Miami and there are exactly zero hills above 10' in elevation and she will never take this thing so much as on a gravel road. Its a concrete jungle down here.

What lift kit should I get that raises it 2-3" and keeps the same nice, clean ride on local and highway roads as the stock suspension.

Thank You in advance

Since the suspension version of "lifts" have been discussed ad naseum as you have stated you are aware of, I will point you in a new direction to maximize your requested desires.

If you have a 5th gen that comes with an antenna, I will recommend an antenna extender. I don't know if these exist, but I'm sure you can make one at the local do it yourself place for cheap.

If your 5th gen does not come with an antenna, then possibly a roof rack to get you the height you are after or add a CB antenna yourself.

These solutions should have minimal impact on ride quality since your stock springs and shocks will be unmodified and the additional load from these mods is minimal.

You are welcome!

Well thank you, we were debating a large floopy dildo or the roof rack for height. Wind resistance is key here and the veins act as knives cutting through the wind. Really increases performance so while I do appreciate your suggestion on ways to add height, we found an option that works for both height and performance.

:gun4:

Now, if anyone else can help. My issue is I dont want to spend alot of money for a performance lift kit I dont need but just want something that will get the job done while creating a nice ride at a reasonable price. You guys obviously know more than the dolts at the local shops so it would be greatly appreciated. Every suspension thread that pulls up in the search seems to focus on off road performance which is not my application.

again, thank you in advance

I suppose a daystar spacer lift is in order. You can't really lift something and expect it not to change suspension ride in one way or another. I second a big floppy dildo antenna.

I'm lost, what are you trying to accomplish here?

Why lift it if you don't need it?

Wife wants the look.

Trying to find a lift/suspension that doesnt cost $1300 as i dont plan on rock climbing. Just want something that isnt just shit spacers and will still drive well on the road.

I understand the drive changes no matter what when lifted. I have an F350 jacked up for mudding but dont know anything about just trying to get something 2" higher to fit 33" wheels that isnt going to cost an arm and a leg

Do you also want more horsepower without going FI (do you see what we're getting at)? Seems like there's a big market out there for stuff like this.

Plasti-dip may be the answer, one way or another.

what you're looking for doesn't really exist, hence all the shit for brains answers. the cheapest is a spacer lift, but for some reason you think that is beneath you. the next most economical option is bilstein 5100's in the front and a spacer or airbags in the rear. the suspension feel will change a bit, most people would say for the better.

Dont think that is beneath me at all, I just dont know any better with this thing. I know nothing about 4runners or how they drive. Yesterday was the first time I ever even drove one and just dont want to make a bad decision. I literally just want someone to tell me what to buy as I have no idea and people I dont know on the internet seems like the advice I should take

Spacers are not that bad for street use. It will increase the pre-load and make things feel a little different. Should be tolerable.

For what it takes to install spacers... I would just spend the extra and put on a matched set of springs and shocks/struts. If you go that direction, just choose a setup made for light duty (low weight).

Sounds like the Hornitos commercial:
Any haircut
Any tattoo
Any place

You don't want to make a bad decision so you are going to take advice of a bunch of guys on the internet? Dude.
Don't be a lazy ass. Go do some research (google is your friend) and learn some features nd prices. Come back here with specific questions. You sound like we owe you something.

I never understood the fascination with shitty lifts just for looks and to fit big MT tires for driving around the highway. Hopefully someone from the south can explain it to me. Do you guys just enjoy pissing money down the drain on extra gas or you get a kick out of us "northerners" *****ing about global warming? What's the deal? Help me understand.

Spacer lift, I suppose, if you're just after the look. My 2 cents: buy a set of Duratracs in the stock size, and you'll be close enough to "the look" that you (and wifey) will be happy.

It doesn't seem like you tried very hard at all to find this on your own, or even shopped around yet. Yes there are hundreds of posts about lifts, there is a thread dedicated to lift options, and another thread dedicated to lift pictures often including which lift used. The least you could do is go and look at the actual cost of lifts. Before you ask where, check the vendors. By the way, your application is not unique in the least, in fact there is a very widely used term for it.

Give the guy a break. His wife is asking him to do this... and he does not really give a crap about knowing all the details.

BTW, People call this a MallCrawler application.

OP. Call Toytec and look at this link.
Complete Lift Kits

Those are your basic options. Spacers are the cheapest route, but results are not the best. You kind of get what you pay for....

One more thing to know is that if the truck feels twitchy on the hwy after proper alignment...(as much + caster as possible) you may need to get aftermarket UCAs to get more positive caster in the alignment. If you keep the lift around 2.5" you won't need to worry about it.

No reason to purchase upfront, just be aware that it may be something you need to address after install.

What you want to install are these based on what you are after:

Daystar? - Driven by Design

They keep the factory shocks/coils and factory ride, as all it does is mount above the front coilover assembly and rear coils, lowering them thus lifting the truck.

I installed them a couple weeks ago, and am very happy. I wanted to keep the stock suspension parts since everything was brand new, and also keep the stock factory ride, but with the additional ride height and clearance.

Her 4Runner will ride the same as it does now (just higher) and give her the look she wants. Great product for the money (~$130).
