Satoshi grill mod question

I need some advice compadres. I am currently in the process of doing the satoshi grill mod and was wondering which TOYOTA emblem to use:

1. This one off the FJ40

Today, I purchased a dremel and basically took the inside plastic stuff out of the grill and sorta sanded it using the included bit. I shall sand more tomorrow for a smoother finish. What color do you think I should paint the remaining grill perimeter? Since my car is now shadow mica (instead of green), I was thinking perhaps flat black or maybe some sort of graphite/gunmetal.

Really like the new color! With some beefier wheels/tires, your truck would really stand out. I agree on the "older" style FJ emblem that BFAD posted the link for.

Thanks for the link man, I found a couple of sites where I can get either type for roughly ~35 dollars...decisions, decisions

Qyota, I really like the color too :bigok: Since I'm planning on not doing a lift anytime soon before school starts, I think I might paint my wheels and probably put on some 265s (since I think that is possibly the biggest you can put on without a lift and without any rubbing).

I shall post pics of my progress today
 
Man, I'm really leaning toward not using the FJ40 emblem because I think the other one just looks cleaner (hesitant to use the word modern since this 4runner is 15 years old!)

Anyway, I purchased some mesh today from home depot for 2 bucks (it's used to cover your gutters so they don't get clogged with gunk)

And then cut it using this stuff

Then I sanded the grill and primed it (but @#$@#$@, the can fudged up and started releasing drops of paint)

Then I painted the mesh black and painted the grill to match the color of my 4runner (I lucked out and found some metallic paint which is fairly identical to what is on my 4runner).

still need to order the emblem
 
decided to not be bold and am going with the classic FJ40 emblem. Ordered just now off toyotapartszone.com for $34 shipped.

emblem still pending but finished the grill!

I angled the car horns and painted them black since they were sorta showing through the grill and were all faded.

update: toyota emblem came today and installed easily...used machine #10 bolts with 4 washers...to dark to post pictures today, shall post tomorrow :)
 
wow! that looks fantastic! I actually have this in the plans as well, Im thinking on going with the newer FJ emblem? not sure. I cant wait to see the finished product!
 
Man every time I see one of these it makes me wanna do it more and more, looks really good!

Also totally jealous of your shadow mica, if I ever repaint I am going to have to seriously consider that color. :cool: If you don't mind me asking how much did painting the whole thing run ya?

thanks Palmetto, I really like the color too. It was either shadow mica or metallic black (and I figured shadow mica hasn't been done before on a 3rd gen so why not). I got it done for <700 OTD if I remember correctly. I can't wait until it's been thirty days so I can wash/wax this sucker :naughty:
