Saw a FJ Cruiser Today

i was at longo toyota the other day, and yes they (FJ Cruiser) were there. and it looks like theres not enough leg room on the second row seats. however, the looks of it is impressive.
and one time at moreno valley toyota, saw a guy test drove tha fj cruiser and floored it from a dead stop, it was quick acceleration.

I took one for a quick spin and it is just too cool.
Anywhere I parked it drew a crowd within minutes; nothing but positive attention. Most of the all-new models Toyota has put out since the late 90's have been love it/hate....Echo, Yaris, Matrix, etc. This one doesn't seem to follow that path.....everyone I showed it to loved it, even if they had no idea what it was.
Suspension and ride wise, it's a cross between a 4Runner's ride and a Tacoma's ride.....which is a great thing. Definetly more solid than any "car-like" ride, but well damped and not bouncy or jittery at all. I prefer this type of ride to, say, a Camry-esq on-road ride.....but I'm a truck guy, so YMMV. Power is strong and torquey, althought the 6-speed still needs lower gearing. Steering feels nice and light and the driving position is spot-on. Better than the 4Runner's actually, with TONS of headroom (but no sunroof). The seats are much firmer good for some, not for others I suppose....I liked them.
Vision to the front and sides is awesome, because of the tiny a-pillars set way back. Blind spots look bad initially, but once you're in it, they're easy to adapt to. Plus you'll run over whatever you hit anyways. I drove a full-load C-pack....the stock stereo was killer. The triple gauge cluster with the clinometer is neat, and the flat dash and oversize controls make you feel like billy badass offroader, even if you're more of a johnny pavement pounder
It looks huge parked next to almost anything and will make anything short of an H1 or a lifted 1-ton look mundane and wussy. Parked it beside a full-load 3rd gen 4Runner that was kicking around and the length was close.....but it looked twice the 4R's size!! Also made the 3rd gen look sooo plain....and I LOVE how 3rd gens look, so that's saying a lot! All the features are bugged out up close....the massive roof rack, marker lights, rear mount spare.....everything sticks out! Too bad they wussed out on the rubber afterall though....so make sure to swap for five 32" BFG A/T's before it even leaves the lot......seriously.
Bottom line....I likes it. And a full full load 6-speed up here stickers for like $35K and change....and a base base SR5 V6 4R starts at just over $40K.....SCREAMING deal. No one believes it's that cheap!

I was driving back from Newport beach to Reno for spring break on friday and in bishop there was three semis completely loaded with FJ's...

Gentlemen, and Ladies of the Forum...just a few thoughts...
Should I have purchased the '06 SE?...I'm thinking yes! I'm thinking absolutely!...
BUT:
Turning heads with a sweet ride, and making other manufacturers look small in comparison is something I'd love to have.
I'm thinking that the FJ would (or is currently) turn heads. From some evidence of personal accounts that have been made across the country, I have a feeling inside that kind of says...the FJ will make a change that is slowly pushing the 4runner aside...Part of me wants says..."SEE YOU SHOULD HAVE WAITED AND PURCHASED THE FJ CRUISER!!"...and that sucks because I LOVE MY 4RUNNER...The other part of me says..."YOUR 4RUNNER IS THE GREATEST INVESTMENT...AND IS WORTH EVERY PENNY"...someone please help me and put me back on a "sane" path to realize once again the greatness of the 4RUNNER!!...
HOWEVER:
Do we all really think that the FJ is gonna make our AWESOME 4Runners look obsolete?...not in an overall sense but...change the whole look on the main 4x4 vehicle Toyota produces?...I love my 4Runner, but deep inside...this whole FJ Crusier, (which I agree is awesome) is certainly making me a little jealous.
But hey, I know there are awesome things about the 4runner that the FJ doesn't have and I'm proud of that. But at the same time I really would like some encouragement from my fellow 4RUNNER LOVERS...to make me realize that the 4RUNNER passion will never go away, and that MY 4RUNNER06 is WAY BETTER THAN THE FJ CRUSIER!!!

Don't worry....
the FJ is interesting right now because of its new look, after a year it will be common place. Don't get me wrong, the FJ has good looks and performance but it will never take away from the 4runner dynasty. Remember when you first saw the 4runner, when it was first introduced?Awe inspiring wasn't it? Bodywise it hasn't changed much, just more aero and industrial looking.
The same with the Land Cruiser, when it was first introduced it was in a league of its own. It still is. Very unique body design and performance.
To me the FJ will be another category of the Yota line up. The body styling and performance is very unique. The naustalgia of the FJ will soon fade. To me it will be like the Hummer H2. When it first was released, everyone flocked to it. But now I view it to common place, even played out.
So I say don't feel bad, there is a legacy to the 4runner and you're part of it!!!
(Toyota also positioned the FJ to be between the 4runner and the Rav, making us one up on the FJ

I saw one at the Cleveland Auto Show and i wasn't impressed after looking at the inside. It looks kinda bare. The floors are rubber like the Element. The outside looks cool but they aren't very big, unlike when they were first shown as a concept car. The inside of them was enough to turn me to the GX470. However, for those that want a toy, they are perfect. I just don't see them as a practical day to day car. There is no way they take over the 4Runner market. The 4Runner is such a better vehicle.

I think some of you guys are missing the point.
The FJ doesn't really compare with the 4Runner since it's target audience isn't for the street crowd that will slap 22"s on it;it's aimed at the true off road crowd hence the simple interior and rear locker plus a few other goodies. Of course the Runner is nicer overall vehicle but I wouldn't say better (it's still a Toyota) but it's also aimed to please the soccer mom crowd and we all know that.

Surely enough most fj owners will not be as worried as 4R owners if the paint get scratched or if there is mud all over the place. It may actually look better with mud!
4R have indeed migrated to the semi-lux area and that is ok.
Once the 4R gets 10-15 years of use and 150k miles (still in it's prime)... it would not hurt that much to take it to the hard-trails and see some bents and nicks.
Again, I am sure many do not think like me.

I just drove an FJ cruiser. It was interesting. It was sort of like driving a simulator. Looking out the windshield gave me the feeling of looking at a wide screen HDTV. It was weird. But I did sort of like it.
But you guys are nuts if you think this is targeted at real 4x4 users... It is targeted directly at city folk who want to look like they are core. It is not very useful to a real 4x4 user. Its impossibly hard to get the crap off the roof, how you going to even put skis and snowboards up there? How are you going to see out? Roll the window down and watch the rear tire go over a rock? Good luck. Back up and turn around on a tight trail? Better have a spotter. Its no competition for a Wrangler except it will last much longer.
I think you still would be better off with a 4runner.
