Saw a JK Brute on my way to work today. Jeep is gonna sell a ton of Jeep pickups when they become available. Does anyone think they’ll steal away a lot of Tacoma buyers?

I can see some intrigue but don't know if this will put the Tacoma on notice. The bed looks small to me and not sure if Brute would be utility-friendly as the Tacoma.

Pretty sure I saw this one last week, too. I was headed into Newport and it was before the first bridge over by Jamestown.

Saw one in Santa Clarita about a month back. Desert brown.

It will def steal Taco sales.

Or Subaru, or whatever. lol. Everyone isbuying trucks now, so the pie seems to be growing, so everyone can sell a lot.

I think, though, that we've reached "Peak Truck". In a few months gas and interest rates will have people starting to go after Teslas and Priuses again.

Edit: Apparently Brutes aren't even JEEP. They're some other company who converts them. So they're a complete nonthreat. But I guess the Jeep pickup us? I'm confused.

As I understand it, Jeep quality has been on the poor side for a long time. I have no personal experience or stories. But if that’s the case, Jeep will have a difficult time convincing a buyer who’s interested in quality that this is different from other Jeeps. But I still think this will sell ok to those interested in its looks. To me, from these views it kinda looks like a Wrangler with a bed sort of grafted in.

If it does steal Taco sales, I’m sure we’ll see a response from Toyota soon afterward. That might be a good thing. Competition keeps the blades sharp, eh?

A buddy of mine works for Fiat Chrysler (who owns Jeep). He drives a Cherokee for his company car, and gets a HUGE discount on anything under the companies umbrella.

Both of his personal vehicles are Toyotas.
 
I'm sure the jeep fan boys (and girls) will buy them and trade them in a couple years later on something better.
I would never buy the first year of anything - especially a jeep
 
I think some are confusing this with the new Scrambler (JT) that is supposed to be released in 2020 I believe.

AEV has been making a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a truck bed conversion for a few years now. They'll even put a Jeep 5.7L or 6.4L V8 in it if you can afford it.
Look around this site for the truck bed conversion. Oh and see if they have a Filson version.

The disadvantage I see is it breaks up the space behind the front seats into two small compartments, the back seat and a short truck bed. Where do you sleep? At least with the 4Runner you can sleep inside and store more big camping gear, like ice chests, folding tables, etc.

Because I drive a 5th gen and took this through the windshield on my way to work today and thought it was interesting as a specialty vehicle and as a preview to the upcoming Jeep pickup. As Jeep is the chief competition for our 4runners, I felt it was relevant. I find it a more interesting topic than some of the ridiculous threads like, “where do you guys put your cup holder inserts when you use a big water bottle.”

Jeep with truck bed

Yes, I think it's worth looking at too. I saw the AEV Jeep conversion just like this in 2015 when I was looking at Jeeps and 4Runners.

If you're out on the trail the only vehicle you're likely to see that can keep up with a 4Runner or Land cruiser is the Jeep Wrangler. It's good to know what's different about a Jeep.

It belongs in General Discussion or Off-Topic. The reason for the 1st through 5th Gen sub-forums is to post about those generations specifically, regardless of what vehicle you own.

I’m trying to educate you.
