Saw a JK Brute

A buddy of mine has a Brute. In fact it’s on the Gobi website. Gobi used his truck to make the measurements for the roof rack. That Brute spent 11 months in the shop. Replaced every part under the sun and still couldn’t get it to run. Finally replaced the entire engine and transmission. That’s 11 months of payments and not even being able to drive the thing. For whatever reason, my buddy kept it. It’s his 3rd Jeep... not one of them has been reliable. I certainly don’t understand going back to the poisoned well...

h2 SUT. . . .and don't forget the h3T as that one at least had a larger bed compared to the h2.

Jeep has been dangling this carrot in front of rabid fans for years (going back to at least 2005 when I bought my first TJ). They never built any for the public, just for the auto shows. I think they do it just to mindf*** the Jeep guys and torment them. Anyway, I think it was AEV? (I could be wrong on that) who finally took the gamble and invested in developing the Brut conversion on (again, if memory serves me correctly) what was know unofficially at the time as the LJ - the extended TJ model. I think there were more conversions done once the JK platform released though. Saw a few JK conversions on a dealer lot, seemed a bit much to me to buy a JK, hack it up, and wind up with a $55K Jeep pickup with few amenities (compared to GM/Ford/Ram trucks in the same price range).
I think the Jeep faithful are too nostalgic about the Scrambler, which was different and cool for what it was. The Brute conversions aren't the same. It takes a Jeep and turns it into a truck - and in doing so creates a vehicle that is not as good as a Jeep, and not as good as a truck - and doesn't look as good either (IMO).
If they want to do a Jeep truck, they should do it right and bring back a proper version of the J10.

What makes you think quality is a concern? People are concerned with image. There are millions of crappy products sold everyday and the JL is selling like crazy.

You’re concerned about quality. I’m concerned about quality. That makes two of us. I was referring to those millions who are like us, not to the other millions who don’t pay as much attention to that.

Brutes ran for 80-150k. All current owners are probably butthurt that FCA is going to sell a virtually identical truck for less than 50k.
But with the weld failures on the current Wranglers, I think that the release of this thing will be delayed.
I went to check out the Rubi at my Costco and ALL the welds were porous and rusty on a BRAND NEW vehicle.

The 2017 Grand Cherokee that my wife took over, had a service light come on (the dealer stated the computer said the vehicle was in a rollover), they replaced that module of the computer.... other than that it's been 1 year and two oil changes.
That said, IT'S A JEEP, and i did purchase the FCA lifetime warranty (unlimited years & miles). I do not think i'll need that with the 4Runner.

Still, wish you the best with your Jeep. Nobody wants car troubles. That sounds like a very comprehensive warranty, which is nice. Is it expensive?
